Kid showed great skills last night. He's still 18? No need to rush. He is a 1st line-2nd line player. If there is no room for him, no point putting him on the 3rd or 4th line.

Still young enough not to rush. Was surprised he was able to go to the net & play the boards as well as he did. The one criticism I heard of him, was he needs to get a little stronger to compete in the NHL. Not noticeable at all last night.

Juniors are what's logically best for Duclair but logic isn't what a lot of Rangers fans use, I would have no problem with him sticking around for 9 games like you said, Step will be out for 10-15 games and it wouldn't hurt, this is as long as he continues plays like he did last night, he was noticeable every shift and responsible defensively
- HankdaTank

Well the thing is that the reason teams don't like playing kids past 9 games is because the second they play the 10th game, the first year of their ELC is burned. Since Duclair's 1st year is already burned regardless of whether he gets sent down after preseason or 60 games into the regular season, it wouldn't be a bad idea to keep him up here until he hits a bad slump. It's almost inevitable he'll hit a bad slump just because he's so young and when he does that whether it's 15 games into the regular season or after the All-Star break, there's no harm in sending him back down to Juniors at that point with all the NHL experience.

Basically, his 1st year is burned no matter what so the arbitrary 9 game tryout thing means nothing to him and I'm sure AV and Sather are thinking the same thing.

Wait if he plays more then 9 games does he have to stay in the NHL all year or can he be sent to Juniors at anytime?

Why is it that the first year on his ELC is automatically burned? I thought the whole point of the 9 game tryout was to avoid burning that year.

He just recently turned 19. I actually think Juniors is the best place for him. He's almost a lock to be on Canada's WJC team. When was the last time the organization had a forward to play for that team? Also his team is hosting the Memorial cup, so he has multiple high profile stages to showcase himself. Also he' might get a chance to become Captain of that team.

He can be sent back I think but the Rangers would lose the 1st of his ELC. But I'm not sure. He might have to stay.

That's only if the contact is on a "Slide Risk". The Rangers singed him to late. So his contract starts this year. Rangers really flubbed that. But he is on the reserve list. So if the Rangers make another deep playoff run he's eligible to play.

Oo ok gotcha so his contract slides if he plays in juniors, but if he stays we need to make a trade. What if his team plays late into the season and ends up winning the Memorial Cup-Say his season is finished. Say for our playoff run, at that point would we need to only have 49 contracts on the books in order to be able to bring him up?

He can be sent down any time but can't be called back up.

He signed his contract past a certain deadline. The only issue is that we're at 52 contracts currently out of the 50 contract limit. But 2 of those contracts can "slide" (Duclair's and Graves') if they get sent down to Juniors. If Duclair stays for a bit, we'd have 51.

Rangers did kinda flub it but at the same time Brooks said Duclair and his agent orchestrated it like that on purpose.

That's a good question. I assume the Rangers would need to open a contract spot for him in order to play. But then I remember when they put Kreider on the reserve before he was even signed and he got his chance vs. Ottawa in 2012. So again I'm an idiot and not really sure.

On Duclair. If you sign a guy player before Jan 1 after the year he was drafted his contract only sides for 1 year. If signed him from Dec 31 or early it slides for 2. Duclair signed on Jan. 3, 2014. So his contract clock starts this year. No matter where he goes.

My gut says it doesn't matter because once the playoffs roll around kids from Juniors join the squad anyway along with all the people from the AHL but yea I have basically zero idea.

Still haven't seen those or Nightmare on Elm Street. I've seen part of the Nightmare where a girl is in class and burns herself on the pipe in the boiler room to wake up.

-------

I have seen Halloween 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 though.

Stupid ass deadline rule, but I do feel like I recall Jimbo saying something about losing Duclair for the entire year if he were sent to Juniors. Felt like he also said his opinion was based on the teams season continuing through the end of the memorial cup. So personally I wasn't sure if his opinion was based on the teams success or if the date of the juniors season ending has any effect on a players ELC if the player is called up for the NHL playoffs.
