When Bobby Ryan doesn't sign here, it will be like missing out on the last UFA we pursured. So what? If he does sign here, then what? The haters are up in arms?

It's all just a stupid pride and ego game, so the first can say I told you so.

I want Giroux to play with a pure shooter like we've seen in past years. Lindros and LeClair, Forsberg and Gagne, etc. I don't think there is anything wrong with this.

- SuperSchennBros

If Ryan was the player that Gagne was in his prime, I'd be on board. But he falls way short.

I guess I can't worry about Bobby Ryan until I see what Schenn does.

I think Schenn will score and be consistent, so I believe there won't be a need, but I am honest enough to say that if I am wrong, Schenn probably won't get too many more chances and they might look at a Ryan.

But personally, I think it just is too soon to street fight over it -- but I do understand both sides

When three people (I assume seriously) can say that they wouldn't trade B. Schenn for B. Ryan, I think we have dropped his value too low.
- aflyerpower8

I don't. This team is building for the future. Schenn is 22, coming off a 20 goal season and he's signed for 2 years. Ryan is entering his UFA season, will likely get a sizeable raise and is 28.

I feel the same people who will clamor for the flyers to sign him will be the first to complain about his inconsistency and lack of physicality. He's very similar to JVR but older and worse IMO

Edirt: and will cost more than JVR

Jeff Carter would like to say hello, too.

Jacob Markstrom on waivers, only mildly surprising name. Kevin Marshall on there as well
- Jsaquella

We didn't get a goalie at the draft now we can have a Markstrom for free!

If Emerys absence is actually due to injury then this could be interesting

Do you expect to have the same roster by season's end?
- SuperSchennBros

Not sure, why?

Yeah, not sure where they can stash him. Led Zepp & Stolarz at Allentown and they added another couple of goalies for the minors, too.

Supposedly Emery hasn't been on ice for a couple days, maybe if he's dinged they take a flyer on Markstrom

Man, it's gonna be that way, after the season he had last year. People want him to do well, but there are questions when you get to your mid-30s. Always will be

At least carter was a good two way player. Ryan offers very little during his scoring droughts. He's not even the type to hang around the net much so it's not like he helps with screens either.

Not much interest in Ryan for me. Too one dimensional, and lack the elements to his game that I think the Flyers should be looking for if they're going to get involved in a big money deal. I'd want a player who is just as effective without the puck, as with it. That you can put on the ice at the end of the game with a one goal lead, just as you can if you're down a goal. That's not Ryan in my opinion.

All I've heard this summer is Lecavalier is done and can't play here because he doesn't play like Rod Brind'amour, like Couturier and Laughton can as possible do in support of Giroux in the bottom nine. Grossmann needs to be cut lose because he can't carry the puck up ice like Drew Doughty. Schenn needs to play center to be effective. Steve Mason should be consider within the same conversation as Johnathon Quick,Henrik Lundqvist and Martin Brodeur in his prime. Samuel Morin is the next Chris Pronger. Simmonds, Read and Voracek are all better then Ryan but even Voracek can't crack 25 on a line with Giroux, a player who's managed to come out 3rd in points twice in the last three NHL seasons. I've gotta tell you Ladies and Gentlemen, it's hard to keep up.

Well that and the fact that the Flyers tried to trade him for most of the summer.

Hey, from what I've heard, Gagne couldn't cut it anymore in 2009-10 but he's looking alright in Pre-season.

Exactly -- this marriage has some challenges. Vinny could help quiet some of it by simply playing better, if healthy

Really? Because you just posted what you want in a player that the Flyers should go after in detail, which isn't Ryan.

It sure sounds silly when you just lump various opinions from multiple posters together. Conglaturation, you're smarter than a hodge podge of cherry picked opinions that look funny together!

At this point, as long as he can provide PP help and not be a lead anchor at 5 on 5, I'd be satisfied. He had a good game vs the Devils, but the lack of intensity shown by NJ could have been a major factor in that.

It's the pre-season. There's been enough Jon Sim types that lead me to not expect the pre-season to be a reliable indicator of what will happen when teams dress full line ups and are playing for keeps

Doesn't make sense. What does any of that have to do with Ryan? Nothing!
