Like I said the great football minds in here are way more informed. So Jacksonville is messing up as is Houston even though the head coach there helped mold Tom Brady . Good to know.

Bortles is starting this week, because Henne is a disaster. They're trying to correct a mistake.

Point is, he was never "ruined" by being "thrown to the wolves" too early. He's turned out just fine. He isn't an elite quarterback, and he was never going to be an elite quarterback, no matter how many years he was holding a clipboard, and no matter who he was holding it behind.

He had the physical tools granted . But maybe some more education might not have hurt him . How do you know it might not have helped his development ?

No they saw fit to let him watch a bit before throwing him in there . How do you know that was not the plan . And not correcting a mistake as you seem to think ?

#1 or 2 picks . exceptions to the rule . You cannot compare a later 1st rounder to them . There is a reason they went at the top . But to expect that from any quarterback is ridiculous .

Andy Dalton? Wilson, Flacco, numerous others.

It's pretty blatantly obvious. They just got thoroughly embarrassed by Indianapolis. Sure, it could be coincidence that they just so happened to plan on having Henne play 3 weeks, get humiliated at home by a division rival, have a fan outcry, and then start the rookie, but it's highly unlikely. I don't need to "know" the plan. That thing called common sense takes care of that for me.

Don't take it out of context. My point is shooting down someone's opinion because they're not working an NFL job right now is wrong. It's entirely possible that one of these "fantasy football" guys could actually know what he's talking about.

You're assumption suggests that true football minds are right 100% of the time, which is false.

And to that point, why is that when someone brings up a point/opinion it's straight to the "so you know better than football minds " response but your opinion magically gets by this little barrier?

There's a big difference between Favre and Chad Henne.

Favre was better than Rodgers for the first few years. Favre gave them a better chance to win

- sbroads24

If we had a Favre type QB, I think Manuel would have been sitting shotgun. That was my point. Since we didn't have a QB that was better, I had no issue putting EJ in. I'm with you that he gives us the best chance to win right now and this year, he hasn't proved otherwise.

All the football minds?

So what about Luck? Manning? Countless others that started day 1. Matt Ryan? Please tell me how mediocre they are.

Joe Montana
Johnny Unitas
Brett Farve
John Elway

Just to name a few that either didn't start right away, were released after being drafted, or struggled when started right away.

And do you consider any of them exceptional ? Wilson is the best of them as I pointed out several times now he was older and a little more mature . He is a product of a system . That main emphasis was, Just don't make mistakes and manage the game.

Maybe I played Football at a high level ? And many of the guys I played with are coaches at the Pro or Collegiate level . And I have this discussion with many of them . If a player is that exception and steps in right away . Great . But the fact is just because a player is drafted in the first round does not mean they should play right away. The onus is on the franchise to have a vet to mentor and guide them . Teach them the rope so to speak . That was the major problem with Buffalo's plan for EJ

Troy Aikman was 0-11 with 9 tds to 18 int his 1st year.

He was a whopping 14-24 his 1st 3 years.

31-46 on the td/int ratio.

Your observation is fine . They got humiliated . But again how do you know they did not want him to watch a bit before playing ? It has never hurt a quarterbacks development to observe a bit when they enter the pros. Things move a lot faster at this level.

And all those countless hours NFL coaches put in are worthless . You should see the hours NFL coaches put in . They often are in way before the sun comes up and don't leave till hours after it has set . If it was only as easy as some on these boards seem to think . The defenses are disguised much better and the game moves much faster than in college . It has gotten closer over the years . But it still is a massive jump .

And that is why we should be looking at the GM with an eyebrow raises and a puzzled look. Why don't we have a better option on this team after two years? Piss poor planning. They are friggin hosed if EJ sh!ts the bed. All eggs in one basket, no back up plan...that is evidence of these so called "football minds" that some seem to revere. Personally, many fans have a better clue than these idiots who are too close to the trees to see the obvious Forrest.

If it was only that easy . Same with every franchise. There is no grace period anymore . Even if a coach has won multiple Super bowls . A couple of rebuild years and the fans demand a change. And owners make a change whether they should or not . 49ers start out 0 and 3 and his job is in danger ?
