Can't watch the game, stuck at the Library at school. Anyone want to give me some details how the team and certain players look?

I don't know man I remember more soft goals given up then anything else. I think you are exaggerating a little bit but the numbers were brutal last year so its hard to gain momentum with my theory We'll find out in a couple of weeks
- Vukota

No doubt.Im in no way saying our goalies were good in any way shape or form. They were brutal but there were too many players left alone in our crease and tape to tape passes from our defensemen to opposing fwds in front of our net than I care to even try to remember. . Everyone gets excited and hopes for something different this time of year along with forgetting about shat that happened the yr bfr. I do it too but our defense along with our goaltending was atrocious last yr. Maybe it'll be different this season with a player or two stepping up? We are due for that for facks sake

Boring game. Isles special teams is gross. Grabvoski looks good as does Nelson. That's about it

Halak is a righty, like RDP. I hope that's the only similarity between the two.

edit: as they score their 3rd PP goal. Crap.

OK Cizikas just scored a shorty...was to go CC.

Say what you want about the goalies, but I remember the team giving up plenty of breakaways and 2-1's. It all fine that the Isles were not giving up 50 shots a game. The problem was giving up numerous quality shots each game.

You are correct. Thought I heard the announcer say he caught one with his right (hand) glove. Then my feed crashed.
Just got the browser re-opened in time for Strome goal. Looked for Halak. He's holding as a lefty.

No matter. 4-2. Canes win. As usual.

Good idea and let's pray we do not have to have this conversion about the D and goalies this year.

Those tweaks capuano made to the PK were terrific . What a joke. Only positives was the line of Strome, Nelson, Lee. And the effort of Cizikas and Reinhardt. But by god the special teams is just a mess. Not to be a Richard, but if this is an early indication than capuano shouldn't make it past october.

Yeah the feed screwed up on me half way through the 3rd. Wasn't able to get it back up till the final 6 minutes.

We may at least want to give Cappy the day off when we play the Canes.

I don't think he should've even been brought back. I think the next coach is gonna be another scrub with zero head coaching experience at the NHL level.

According to Crappy, special teams haven't been a focus during camp yet. I guess since they were so good last year?

It's just a preseason game so it doesn't mean squat but it better become a focus pretty damn quick.

Slightly off topic but as a long suffering Leaf fan I always felt this team never used Kulemin the right way. They used him primarily as a checker. I'm curious to see if the Isles use him similarly.

It looks like he will be used in the top 6, so that would lead you to believe his Offensive side will be his strength. I can not wait to see how he plays this season.

Bob McKenzie reported the Hawks are still shopping Nick Leddy, but telling teams they have to take Versteeg as well. #isles

- jimmc7722

I would tell the Hawks that the more of their salary cap I clear, the less nothing they will get in return. As long as they grasp that concept, I'd take both. You can always probably move Versteeg for nearly nothing if you have to. In fact, if I can trade them a third round draft pick for both of those players, I'll waive Versteeg, no problem.

Bailey is periphery player or "floater" whose reluctance to shoot the puck and go to the dirty areas is a continued source of concern. KO prior to "breaking thru" played hard and went to the net and was not afraid to go into the corners. His hard work finally paid off. I Don't see Bailey as part of the solution going forward.
- Mike C

That to me is more of a reluctance to make a decision due to low hockey IQ than anything else. Watch him stand there like a deer in front of a tractor trailer at night when he has the puck, until someone invariably takes it away from him. You can't fix stupid- Kyle was never stupid.....there's your difference, right there.

Cappy blamed our bad special teams on Reinhardt and pokka.
What a tool. Kids here for one preseason game and he throwing them under the bus to why he sucks as a coach.

What about isles 0-5 on pp cappy ? Was that griffin and polkas fault too?

Instead of pointing blame just settle for bad preseason game. Carolina like their boring counterpart the devils are a team you don't let a early lead on you. They then lure the opposing teams and crowd to slept with their boring trapping game. When is last time isles beat Carolina. They don't match up well.

Also cappy biggest flaw vs a NHL coach is he doesn't know how to make adjustments. He knows one system and that's it

No offense but thats not happening. You've been reportedly shopping this kid since before the draft. The hawks HAVE too dump a player and leddy seems to be unanimously the odd man out even though hes an excellent young player with incredible upside evidently. Being that the hawks are cap strapped I highly doubt you get a first (late or not especially in the upcoming draft) and a "good" prospect. You arent exactly dealing from a position of strength.
- Cptmjl

Especially not if you want me to take Versteeg, too. That diminishes the return even further, as opposed to enhancing it. I'm not the one who can't do arithmetic, here....

We lose because our defense is crap. Some of that is talent, which will be less and less of the problem as we go along. Most of that is him....anyone else hoping we play like sh*t for the first three weeks of the season, so he's gone sooner, rather than later? I'm going to say he needs to be fired, right now, and I'm going to keep saying it, until it happens...

This is the biggest concern. I know optimists dismiss complaints about the coaching essentially as, "Yeah, we all agree, let's move on," but it's a huge issue, imo. Competition is great, but if the guy doing the evaluating has no clue, what do we really expect to end up with? With all the forwards we have, I'm hearing Brian Compton talk about how Cappy is so impressed with Cory Conacher, and that makes me think we'll be having another WTF Cappy decision in the top six that's going take 35 games to correct while another quality prospect becomes bored and disillusioned in Bridgeport. And probably a similar situation on D. Hopefully that's not the case with the "added pressure" to win (not sure why there wasn't pressure to win in other years, but that's beside the point). Maybe the obvious Cappy blunders will be addressed sooner this year.
