You do realize the Isles were middle of the pack last year in shots against. It's not they were giving up 50 shots a night. The goalie play killed us last year. Not saying the D is awesome but I don't think they are as bad as some of you think as well
- Vukota

Poulin was the worst goalie in the league last year. Having him in BPT already adds 15 more points to our season.

Not to mention once Amac left our defense looked so much better with him not playing 20 minutes a night

Our goalies were awful last year, no question. Our defense was also awful when it came to quality chances – not necessarily total shots against. There were some just hilariously bad plays in our own zone, blown coverages, passive defense etc. I don’t see us being as bad as we were last year, but I can see us finishing 9-10th and missing the playoffs. Now if Reinhart comes in and can play even close to how well dehaan did when he stepped in last year, then our defense gets a massive boost. If we’re dressing carkner for more than 10 games…well sh!t.

**losing amac also helps us quite a bit, I'm just uncomfortable with so many questionmarks on the back end.

One other note, I want to see a winning team so goddamned badly, but this team has crushed those hopes for a while now. I'm almost afraid to think they might be a better team this year, feels like I'm setting myself up.

Dan, are you sure the game is on MSG +? I don't see it listed. I just see that it "will be streamed live on Islanders TV and broadcast on WRHU 88.7 FM."

Like the others have said, "No" on the Leddy for Lee. I'm looking forward to watching him this season.

I can't wait to see both second lines tonight (forward and defensive). Should be very interesting.

Should be on NHL network as well, according to a Free Internet site. They should broadcast for FREE during preseason...

Our scoring from the back end isnt exactly turning heads. A healthy vis will help of course but its notlike we dont have a need for a pp defenseman. I know we really need a stay at home type but the way the league is now the back end is all about mobility. Dont get me wrong I'm not on the leddy train but I fond it funny when islander fans say we dont need an offensive minded d man

We should expect a bit more from Viz this year. He had a hell of a concussion to start the season last year. Even after being cleared to play, you're still not 100%. Also, he wasn't allowed to do much physical activity until cleared. Fingers crossed he stays healthy.

Both Poulin and Nilsson are below-average AHL goalies who played 45 combined NHL games last season. The Kings or Hawks might have missed the playoffs if that is what they had to work with between the pipes for half of their season.

While I still am higher on Poulin than I am Nilsson, no question neither of them were ready to play in the NHL, especially when Nabby was prone to injury and Snow knew he may have to rely on one of them for extended stretches. Both were capable of showing flashes of talent, but if you can’t hold it together for a full game you’re not ready for the NHL. Those lapses for a period every game killed us so many times.

Tough to see them trade Lee but if there is no spot for him and this is 3rd yr of ELC, well maybe it is a trade they have to make. Bet CHI would like Clutterbuck because he played well in that division but his salary is too high for their cap.

The Isles are going to live and die through the draft and developing prospects. They aren't moving high-end prospects or young players for anyone not a Norris-candidate. They will ride the "D" out and wait for the young prospects to develop before they move young players like Lee, Strome, Nelson, etc. for Leddy and Versteeg.

The big thing on "D" this year is going to be health. The "D" last year was thin to begin with and then it lost guys like Vis and Hammer for extended periods. It doomed them. The same is true this year. The "D" on paper is not great, but not terrible. If it stays healthy, it will be markedly better than last year. If guys like Hammer and Vis or de Haan get hurt for extended periods, there's no depth and the "D" will be putrid again. Health is everything.

There's no doubt that the Isles goaltending situation is incredibly better this year. Probably the best goaltending tandem the team has had in over a decade. That should make a difference in the standings.

He’s going to be a huge key on defense if he stays healthy, and a huge loss on defense if not. He’s very steady defensively and helps move the puck up ice quickly, and without him we don’t really have a PP QB atm.

I'd be happy to never see either one of them on the New York Islanders ever again.

Nilsson demanding a one way contract and an NHL job for that sh!tter of a year was classic. Reminds me of some of the people you see selling stuff way overpriced on craigslist…what a tool.

The quality of those shots have a lot to do with our goals against which is a direct result of our defense being deplorable. Ive never seen so many wide open opportunities in the paint of our net in my life.

I don't know man I remember more soft goals given up then anything else. I think you are exaggerating a little bit but the numbers were brutal last year so its hard to gain momentum with my theory We'll find out in a couple of weeks
