My brother in-law just bought an 800 sq ft condo in downtown Toronto for 680K dollars - I fail the see the difference in prices. Unless you're talking houses? You can get a decently priced house out in POCO or Maple Ridge.

True, but i was renting in Kitsilano at the time. That's where the wife to be wanted to live and the costs were crazy. We bought a semi-detached in Toronto in a good area (High Park) at a time when we were able to get it under asking. Our attached neighbors sold their place 2 years ago and had over 20 offers. While the market is crazy in TO right now, there was a sizable difference in affordability between the areas we had picked out in Toronto and Vancouver. Trying to compare apples to apples, the pricing was around 40% higher in Van at the time. With that in mind, I reluctantly agreed to move back to TO on the condition that we retired out west.
