Olympics are a bit of a joke for hockey.

A condensed sudden death elimination format that can, and does, lead to games being decided by crooked refereeing or even just some bad bounces. The fact that Canada has been so dominate lately is nothing short of amazing.

The NHL is 100 times better hockey to watch. Only our National pride makes the keep away snore fest that is played on European sized rinks remotely interesting.

Add the World Cup back in. Bring in the best players from the NHL and do it on NHL sized rinks and we have something special. Of course they probably won't use NHL sized rinks so the World cup will suck too.

I thought that the 2010 Olympics were great to watch. In Vancouver. On NHL rinks.

Oh, and the refs are not crooked.

Are you kidding me?

If you are comparing the NHL to a Latvia vs Slovenia Olympic game, sure.. but when it's the best countries playing each other, the hockey isn't even in the same realm.

Sure, it wasn't as exciting on the international ice, but still miles ahead of the NHL. You have 1st line all star NHL players playing on 4th lines. The speed and puck movement isn't even close to the same.

Salt Lake and Vancouver was the best hockey I have ever seen in my life. Better than any Canada Cup/World Cup and better than any NHL game, even Stanley cup finals.

Don't know how old you are but the 87 Canada Cup and 96 World Cup were just as good if not better.

I didn't purchase it for PS3, but I did buy it for my Sega Genesis. It's not working for some reason though.

Thing is, it's really hard to compare.

In the 80s the style of play was totally different. NHL hockey in the 80's was, arguably, more exciting than even Olympic hockey nowadays. It's simply because players were generally out of shape, coaching was no where near as structured, and goalies sucked balls.

As for 96, that was the dead puck era. Brutal hockey to watch. Sure, the drama and tension was there (Canada vs US and all that), but the hockey itself was brutal. Go back and watch any hockey in the late 90's to early 2000's and you'll hate it now.. Salt Lake was an exception, in my opinion because of the international flavor of the officiating and clutch and grabbing was called a lot more than in the NHL.

At the end of the day, I was simply responding to the ridiculous claim that NHL hockey is "100 times better than the Olympics". In order to compare it properly, you have to compare current NHL vs current Olympics.. or past NHL vs past Olympics.
