If he plays well in the next couple of years as their de facto #1, I'm not sure he'd be affordable anymore. If he doesn't play well... he's out the door anyway.

So he needs to basically play just okay?

I was at the Home game so didnt see the game in London last night but I could have sworn I saw tweets from Bill or someone saying Laughton was all over the ice last night (in a positive way). no?
- nastyflyergirl

It was in a negative way, at least least in the 3rd. Seemed like he was trying to play defensive hero, but just ended up running around chasing the puck. I guess he's just used to having to be the guy in those situations, making stuff happen.

It was very noticeable, and loud. The thing is, why not keep the ice girls and just not dress them in skimpy clothes? I know it's unpaid, but I'm optimistic that some of those girls genuinely enjoyed being on the crew. Seems very sexist to me to have it be all men.

2016 is when most of these kids will probably have their best shot at making the club (w/ Coburn, Schenn and Grossmann all going UFA)... but I could see Hagg, Ghost and Sanheim making it as early as 2015. Morin seems further off.
- Tomahawk

I see possibilities of Ghostibehere and Haag making the team in 2015. But I'd be absolutely shocked if Sanheim would. Not sure how realistic that is.

Last night during the Caps game, I thought the stand outs were: Aube-Kubel, Sanheim, and Jones. I really hope that Jones makes the fourth line this year. He didn't take any stupid penalties, and played gritty for 60 minutes. The other two will make great additions to the team once they get some AHL seasoning.
One thing that puzzled me is how Rosehill can be the fastest guy on the team. Makes me wonder if Vcheck, and others are focusing on conditioning. I would never expect an enforcer to have that kind of speed, or our forwards lacking such speed.
Anyway, I wanted the above guys to get their kudos for the hard work last night.
Thanks.

skating in a straight line really says little about quickness in game situations. I know a few people who are fast as hell in a straight line but ask them to race around the rink is another story

I don't agree with Mr. Matchett that the current arrangement is sexist, but I completely and utterly agree it would've been effective to give those poor girls less revealing threads.

But yeah, it was a stupid sideshow and I'm glad it's over.

I do wanna throw out there that I was very impressed with RJ Umberger last night. Good hands. Good skating legs. Willing to block a shot from the point on the wing. He's more feisty than I remember. Before being traded he had an awesome playoffs but a down season in terms of points. I don't remember him being much of a fighter. If he plays like he did last night he'll be a massive upgrade over Hartnell.

I'm just going over to the other side with my "sexist" comment. Detractors said the prior arrangement was sexist, so the Flyers completely overreacted, removed all of the girls from the cleanup crew and made it all men. My point was, why not keep them, let them wear the same uniforms as the guys, and have a co-ed cleanup crew?

ah gotcha......I misread the tweet then. I thought it was saying Laughton was standing out in a good way. Honesty I won't be sad to see him play for the Phantoms and get major minutes. No reason to rush a 20 year old kid. I just may have to make a point to see some of the Phantoms games this year. Excited that they will have a team full of legit prospects for the first time since they won the calder cup and that was really only because of the lockout.

I was disappointed in Laughton's play. Effort was good, but outside of drawing the penalty, he didn't have much impact

Did you do the HockeyStreams thing last season? I know you were looking into it? All the Phantoms you can watch on there...

"going over to the other side"? Anyways, I don't disagree this would've been a fine solution, I just don't think the current solution is sexist, or at the very least nowhere near as sexist as what we had previously.

(and before somebody gets upset and calls me a SJW, no I'm not saying having ice girls was the most sexist, terrible thing ever)

I just assumed it was members of the maintenance crew... not a new team they assembled in some exclusionary gesture.

Wow.

I just don't feel that hockey needs to be marketed as a spectacle, and the fans don't need to be pandered to.

You can kind of see they are going with the whole cheerleader vibe, a few teams kind of had some skimpy looking outfits.

Just don't make them wear such provocative clothing. Although I am not sure who this bothered enough to make it into an actual NHL issue.

OB and I use it. He talked me into it and off of Center Ice. They have home and away feeds for all NHL games in HD. I watch it on my Roku and my iphone. I use the web interface occasionally and I needed it to watch WHL games last season as they didn't stream on the Roku. The AHL games are mostly the in house feed married with the radio call. All games are archived.

I had Center Ice for years and although I occasionally run into issues with Hockeystreams it's usually over things that I wouldn't get on Center Ice. The shear volume of options far out distances any quirks I've run into.

Probably has a lot to do with what was said in this article and the fact that the Flyers likely didn't want one of these women suing them:

http://www.motherjones.co...angers-stanley-cup-finals

tl;dr: ice girls were probably considered more trouble than they were worth.
