Steve Downie could do it. And did. Poor Dean McAmmond, possibly the worst 2 consecutive games in history. Season-ending elbow by Pronger in the SCF, then the Downie hit in the first preseason game next year.

Even Downie wasn't even close to 18 inches until well after impact. Closer to 4 or 5 inches.

Seriously, think about how high 18 inches is.

I maintain Steve Downie could have cleared 3 6-inch steps.

Edit: Stop it at the 11 second mark. His entire body is about even with the top of the boards.

Related: Colby Armstrong also sucked at ice hockey.

Only when it came to skating, shooting, body checking, stick checking, passing, and knowing where to be on the ice.

I'm really glad Downie's time as a Flyer is over.

No, he's really great, he's a perennial 25-goal scorer. He was just injured.

Yes, after impact, when his feet fly in to the air.

Look, I'm not saying it wasn't a horrendous hit, and that he didn't leave his feet which he clearly did. I just take umbrage as you vastly over stating the height of both Downie and Schenn's hits.

I edited that to 11 seconds (closer/better view). He's pretty far up before/at impact, because he's not just leaving his feet, he's also making his body horizontal.

We only have room for one perennial 25 goal scorer who never actually scores 25 goals because of extenuating circumstances*... and that spot is taken by one Zac Rinaldo.

*in this case, sheer lack of talent will be accepted as an extenuating circumstance.

I was really rooting for him here....but yeah.....don't miss him, really.

Having him (and Rinaldo) on the team is kind of like having a puppy that isn't housebroken and hoping the puppy doesn't piss all over the house. You know it's going to happen....you just don't know when.

Will this be today's 'potential vs probability' discussion that will still be going on 10 pages from now?

Manland size is only half the battle. You need a Parros stache for any longevity in that business.
