I would have no problem with Nurse spending a year in the AHL. I can see Klefbom solidifying his NHL roster spot in the second half of this season.
- ChetManly

And if that happens we don't exactly have a lot of room. The only wild card is if Nikitin really poops the bed then maybe he ends up back in Russia after we send him to OKC.

Pedigree alone klefbom is higher.
Before nurse, klefbom was the only dman we had that could even be considered close to bluechip.

Reality and development are much different of course, but the organization has always seen klefbom with a higher potential.

Marincin has a calmness to his game that Nurse and Klefbom haven't developed yet.

That's why Klefbom should/will start in the AHL. Marincin needed 1.5 years and I think Klefbom will as well. If Klefbom can develop that, he very well could pass Marincin, however Marincin shows more offense to his game. He really started to come around offensively towards the end of last year.

Klefbom has lost serious time to injury though, hopefully that's all in the past. It may even take him this full year and part of next. Nothing wrong with that.

People liked to call Howson a bone head but he constructed a good team in Columbus. The D core is pretty solid too. I trust that he knows what Nikitin is capable of, so I doubt he poops the bed, I just wonder if he reaches his 2011 potential or whatever it was when was on pace for 50 points.

I don't think Aulie is apart of the equation, but yes, there then becomes a logjam. Maybe the plan is to bring Nurse and Klefbom up together once Nikitin's contract is over?

I doubt they are waiting 2 more years to bring Klefbom around.

Aulie is a #7 or 8, but even still next year we have 6 guys without Petry or Nurse. I really don't see why Petry signs here given all the guys we have. What have we done to make him feel needed? Gave him one year deal, check. Signed a couple more vets, check. Talk about how the prospects are damn near ready, check.

Petry doesn't get any respect and given all the surroundings there isn't much that should keep him here.

Petry might be the one mistake that MacT is really going to regret. Needed to get him to a multi-year deal.

I guess that begs the next question. Do we run Marincin, Nurse, and Klefbom all on the left side over the next 3 to 5 years? Or do we move, say Klefbom, in a package for a mid twenties dman/Centre this year if Marincin picks up where he left off.

Klefbom's injury history does worry me, not that it'll hold him back necessarily, just that he may be injury prone. Hard thing to predict. If we can get decent value out of him, I'm not opposed to moving him.

That's frustating. He was the only good thing about our Defense for how many seasons?

I see him as valuable, but if we can't get it taken care of, trade him for a return.

Yep.

He may have a career year as most do in their contract year, which is great for us, but why would he resign if we don't make the playoffs (which we won't)?

I'm pretty sure management sees Klefbom as (dare I say it?), rather, "untouchable".

Possibly

Mac T speaks very highly of him. In his interview with Mackenzie, he mentioned Nurse and Klefbom together and then sort of threw in Marincin as an after thought. Might be reading in between the lines too much though

I think at some point we have to move one of those guys regardless of which hand they are. I don't think any are top pairing d-men anytime soon and at some point we need to acquire one. One of those guys will be needed in a trade.

I understand fans, but I don't understand management on this one. The one hope we can have is that he is either loyal or ends up meshing real well with Ramsay.

It is tempting to run a D-core like this

Nurse Schultz
Marincin Petry
Klefbom Fayne

Obviously that's assuming everyone is resigned.

If the three left side guys reach their potential, that's a good D core. We would be signing stop gaps until we got to that point.

Id assume that all depends on how desperate we are for help. Ie: close to taking the next step or another ugly season.

Id bet a ton that mact hopes to keep all 3 long term
