What I liked
Boucher and his play all night, showed he wants to play and if he keeps it up will really force lous hand, shot it when needed passed at the right times, didn't try to do too much

Gelinas played a very good game at both ends and had a bomb of a shot, looked poised in his end and made smart decisions in his end, extra muscle helped

Larsson had a strong game other than The Krieder goal, do wish he would shoot a little more

Henrique very good all around game and sneaky game winner

Was really impressed with severson

Ryder

Things I didn't like

Gave up two 2 goal leads, one late

Special teams

The other 3 dmen

We can just about ice two full teams right now. After tonight, here are the guys I don't see contending for the NHL squad:

Komisarek, Kelly, Janssen, Sestito, Fedetenko

Everyone else I think will stick around for at least one more game. More cuts to come obviously. Clemmensen on thin ice.

didn't think Zubrus was that bad. He's so good at protecting the puck. I'm just not sure how to play that line of Zubrus-Elias-Havlat. Zubrus doesn't really fit.. but it's nice to have at least 1 player that has size and puck possession ability. .. but I don't think the board game suits Havlat. They need to fly around, drop and cross-ice passes.. like the A-Line days.

but i'm no coach.

so Ryder. didn't seem all that bad tonight.. if anything it ups his trade value. We'll see what Ruutu and Brunner can do in the next game. Surprised they didn't roll Ruutu-Josefson-Brunner like in practice, but what do i know.

Boucher was impressive.

Komi and Kaberle were bad. we don't need more bad.. even if they're 14 years experienced bad. Gelinas-Larsson will be a good 3rd pair against weaker competition.

So the Boucher-Henrique-Ryder line scored 4 goals tonight?

To be fair two of the goals were horrendous defensive breakdowns by Komisarek and Kelly

I'd go:
Camalleri(sp)-Zajac-Jagr
Boucher-Elias-Havlat
Clowe-Henrique-Ryder
Carter-Zubrus-Ruutu
Brunner is redundant and unnecessary except for being a rhs.

Liked pretty much all the young guys games. Especially Henrique, Boucher, Larsson, and Gelly. I know Larsson messed up on that flip dump but other than that real solid game was very calm with the puck as always. Needs to shoot more no doubt but that's not a problem he's alone in the whole team besides Gelly needs to shoot more. The three deflections are nice and all but you can't expect to get those every night that's one of the reasons we didn't score very much last year. We rely too heavily on the deflections off the cycle for goals.

Also Zubs needs to be away from guys that are going to try and score. Holy (frank) stone hands and spaz away galore from this man. He's great at working the puck in deep and the cycle horrible and trying to make a pass or a decision in the offensive zone.

The second period

Pretty much what I expected, the poop players were poop, the good players were good. Severson is awesome, also I hope they sign tootoo and banish bernier to the ahl.

Agreed

I'm a big fan of his puck work down low, but we can't keep paying a guy that much for that amount of work and production. I would be surprised if he hit 20pts this season. He's expendable IMO

I'd like to hold on to him. Provides good depth just think we have been giving way too much ice time these past few years granted it's mostly because who else was going to get it? But now we have some options. Also think Zubs would excel on the 3rd/4th line. Don't get me wrong though won't be crying the blues if he's shipped out he's not that important.

He did actually I joked early on during the summer saying we should of brought him in. Now after seeing him he seems to still have something left.

I thought Gelinas looked really smooth and comfortable out there, especially when he had the puck. He spearheaded a few good rushes that led to some great scoring chances, and I can watch and rewatch him unload that bomb of a shot he has over and over

Just throwing it out there I thought Tootoo held his own last night. He played with some intensity and whenever there was a scrum of some kind I always noticed he was in the middle of it all. If it came down to it I'd take him over Janseen any day.

Tootoo also has put up 30 points while playing in nashville which also isn't a very offensively gifted team. He can bring speed, hit, play a little on the edge and maybe the odd time chip in offensively unlike what Bernier brings. I was a fan of his first year on with the stanley cup run (till the last game...) but he has done nothing since. He's got a big frame has to start hitting since he doesn't do much for points.
