Sssssup boys? Great to see hockey back, even if preseason, takes my mind off the Jets brutal loss too....

From what I saw I loved seeing the speedsters go, Hags & Kreider. Malone looked really good & Into it. Def played like he knows he has to bring it to gain a roster spot. If he plays like that there is def room for him on the team. Remember he is a battler & not only tough around the net but tough in general, never afraid to mix it up if he has to.

Hank had a rough start there but that first goal was playoff quality as far as deflections go, 1 game, will stay on the positives.

- B2B76

Not a whole lot hank could do about either I thought. The second one looked like it deflected 2-3 different directions before it got to him. In general I thought the goalies for both teams looked shaky at times but it's the very first game of the pre season and it was a fairly decent game got to see some hits some goals and what not I was shocked that with both Janssen who Lou should know is never going to make the team and tootoo dressed that there where no scraps

I really liked Hayes last night, he actually has some playmaking skills to go along with that size. Miller and Kreider were the best Rangers on the ice IMO, Miller has no business ever seeing Hartford again, enough.

I think Lombardi and Kostka were probably the worst, Kostka

- jimbro83

AV didn't think much of Lombardi either last night reading his post game comments.

it struck me last night when the Devils scored pretty much instantly on their 5 on 3 PP, we are gonna miss Brian Boyle in those situations for sure. I hope Tanner Glass isn't the forward in those situations when the games actually count.

So is this whole split squad stuff new? I don't ever remember teams playing two games in one night before

I think you would see Dominic Moore in 5 on 3s

If Malone continues to play hungry I think a 4th line of Malone Moore Glass could be effective. Gritty line that can add some offense and not a liability on D. I don't think there's a spot for Lombardi, Mueller or Fast to start the season and from last night's game Miller deserves a starting spot to start the season. (I thought he was good last year also) Stempniak might be our 13th foward rotating with Glass on the 4th line depending on how Hayes plays but I see Hayes starting the year in Hartford.
Yes I am going to do line projections because they're fun
Kreider Step MSL
Zucc Brass Nash
Hags Miller Malone
Stempniak Moore Glass

If Hayes is in the line up slot him into the 3rd line and Malone takes Stempniak or Glass spot.

Kreider looked really good, very decisive, like when he had the puck he knew what he was going to do. I wonder how much of that was playing with different line mates, meaning once he goes back with Step & Nash will he defer to Nash like he did a lot of the time last year.

Stempniak is going to surprise a lot of people. He's my dark horse for this year. Think of him as a faster D. Moore with more offensive ability. I would consider him a lock for the squad.

He's about a seaosn out but Kristo really impressed me yesterday. Our system seems to be filled with soon to be studs.

I don't think he is playing with Nash to start the year. Looks like he may start with Stepan and MSL based on how the team is split right now

This might just be me, but I would rather have CK on with Brass and Zuccs. I think they play a younger style of hockey that they would thrive on. MSL Nash and even Stepan play a more classic style. One of the keys to the lines this year will be figuring out how to balance and compliment our weapons.

I think its time to let Kreider shine. Have to split him up from Nash. Put him on a different line from Nash and AV should say Chris, you are the (frank)ing man on this line, get it done.

I'm growing more to liking of Kreider-Step-MSL and as much as I think Hags is a good fit for Brass and Zucc that Nash for his best option should play that wing

Yeah, I agree, wether its Kreider or Nash, one of them needs to be with Brass & Zucc.

Both Kreider and Miller looked like the real deal last night. Good to finally see a few 1st round forwards who can really make an impact on the team. Malone looks like he really could be a steal. J. Moore played well. Boyle needs to figure out the system a little but he is going to be fine, esp if they keep playing him at the tip of the umbrella on the PP.

I'm so excited to start the season that I spent a few moments reading the comments on Blueshirtsunited......makes me so glad this blog exists. Holy crap there are some stoopid Richards out there that are Ranger fans.

I liked Hunwick's game. Kid has some jump and gets involved on the offense. I could care less about the game in general as all I want to see is if the guys are in shape and not get hurt in a meaningless game.

Otherwise, I thought the Rangers played pretty well for a split-squad line-up against a pretty full Devils regular season roster (only really missed Jagr?).

Rangers have missed that front-of-the-net tank for a long time. Malone just stayed there and made chances happen. He has some rust to shake off, but he could very well be a steal-of-a deal this season.

Cammalleri, Schneider, Clowe, Ruutu, their defense was not really regulars either. Although I do hope they Keep Komi as a starter.

Sucks for the kid but can't say I'm too upset after dealing with the lightning fans all summer.
