Lots of positives.

Sutter and Bennett are great together. There's the third line pair.

The Penguins have a ton of depth. People forget how skilled Comeau is. Sundqvist and Dea looked good. Neither is ready for full-time NHL duty yet, but either of them can be called up this year as injury replacements and it would be better than recent forward depth. I actually wouldn't mind seeing Megna open the season with Sutter and Bennett.

Lots of options for Johnston, and that's without counting on anything from Kapanen.

Kunitz/Crosby/Dupuis
Spaling/Malkin/Hornqvist
Bennett/Sutter/Megna
Comeau/Goc/Downie

Those are some seriously balanced lines.

bennett looked good today. despres and scuds looked rough at times...good on bortz for a decent game. goalies looked good. so, question to everyone. whats more improtant... trying to get Scuds ice time to improve trade value/ work out the slowness/ etc. OR giving said ice time to a younger player like doumalin or despres to work out their kinks. both have pluses and minuses.

I was impressed especially by Hornqvist, he is the energizer bunny. Go to the net, retrieve the puck aggressively. Rinse, lather, repeat. Spaling could not take a pass nor hold on to the puck, not a great start for him. Benett played well as did Megna, very strong on the puck and creative and lots of shots to the net. Skuds sucked generally but played better in the third, more confident with the puck.

Fleury looks like Fleury, overreacting and bad puck handling. Honestly, I don't think he will ever calm down and I am tired of watching him make the same mistakes. Overall though a good effort. Sutter was ok, sort of. Still weak on the puck.

I didn't see Scuds do anything horrific. He put a pass in Martin's skates under pressure and lost a 50-50 puck battle or two (everyone except Horny and Beauner did), otherwise he played the way he's going to play. He even made a couple cross-ice passes and a good pinch that surprised me. He wasn't exposed tonight, it was just a sloppy sort of game. He'll look a lot better when the systems start to get more locked in. Overall, I wasn't disappointed in his game.

Megna Megna'd tonight. He was bobbling the puck a bit and lost the handle a lot at the blue line but I like that he isn't afraid to try and beat guys. He's a real wild card, he has the physical ability to be a 2nd/3rd line tweener kind of guy and put up 20/20 but he doesn't have the flow of an impact player (at least yet). He seems to make a great play to get the puck in traffic, and then turn the puck over with an average one a few seconds later at the offensive blue line.

Fleury looked very sloppy, that's for sure. It's disappointing that since the 2008 season when he was genuinely great and calm and played pipe-to-pipe, he's never managed to get it back under control.

What did Farnham do?
- Barnaby36

Just his usual extra curricular stuff. Not necessary. Over aggressive and then looking to start some fights. He has a lot of energy and always seems to give effort but he lacks smarts or purpose out there.

Just looked at the roster for tomorrow. Can't wait to see my boy Bryan Rust match up against his former Irish line mate: T.J. Tynnan. Don't expect to see Rust in the league for three years, but really want to see how he fairs against NHL caliber opposition during his first go around.

its as much a story as fitzgerald saying that fluery is an elite goalie. front office people have to say things about current players, players have to say certain things about coaching changes / leadership changes. people will read into them whatever their personal bias is looking for.

Did you actually read the article? Not to sound like a Richard, but it's really straight forward comments about Bylsma.

-Bennett/Hornqvist were the Best players for the Pens.
-Despres showed why he is an AHLer, did you see the nervous nelly pass to the guy leaving the ice on the powerplay?
-Bortuzzo outplayed Despres both with the puck and without it.
-You people have to realize Scuds is going to play and get over it, he did send Datsyuk off with a nice hit.
-Farnham is awesome, not NHL awesome.
-Can't wait to read about Nick Spalings Fancy's for this one.

I refuse to accept Scuds will take a spot from someone who can actually play, that hit on Datsyuk was borderline interference by the way.
