he's averaged more goals and assists per year over his career... yet he's the poor man's JVR?

Can you imagine what JVR would do playing with Getz and Perry?

Can you imagine what Ryan would do when not playing with Getz and Perry?

Another reason Lupul is better than Ryan.

meh. Every hockey player plays through injuries during the year. There isn't a player that comes through the season feeling like a million bucks, so I don't care much for injury excuses.

Call me old fashioned, but I will take the player who is younger, has a better contract, scored more goals each year for the last two, scored more points each year for the last two any day of the week and twice on a Sunday.

Ryan is right up there with B. Schenn and E. Kane as the most overrated players in the league. Oh, and Dion. Because we all know Dion is vastly overrated by many and gets away from having any criticism thrown his way.

i dunno the thing about Dion is that now he gets sooo much poop that he's almost underrated... like people start calling him a 3/4 nowadays which is just as dumb as the people who thought he was one of the best a few years ago... I still think Kesler is the most over rated player in the league... still riding the coat tails of a 40 goal season like what 5 years ago now?

To be fair Kesler has been playing with a torn labia.

extrapolating both players' numbers over 82 games last year:

JVR: 31-31-62
Bobby Ryan: 27-29-56

so even though you have decided that playing 45 games with a sports hernia is no different than playing with a few bumps and bruises late in the season, those numbers are still pretty close. so i fail to see how comparing Ryan to JVR indicates that he's overrated. or that he's so far beneath JVR.

That cup final run ruined him. I also thought he did get surgery....guess he doesn't want to go back under the knife?

Meh. Dion, Phil, JVR, Bozak, Bernier and the rest were all playing injured. You never hear, Simmons, Mirtle, Cox, TSN ever using that as an excuse to hold back on their criticism.

I don't think you get it, he went all in for that cup. He has never been the same since. As much as he's a diver or whatever else, I kind of respect him for going all in trying to win the cup.

It's because everyone talks about Ryan like he's some kind of Superstar, or an elite player, when, in fact he truly isn't. He isn't even reaching the levels of a certain James Van Riemsdyk, who, other than from Leafs fans, never get's any praise thrown his way. Ryan is most certainly a decent player. But he is not in the upper echelon's on NHL players. And soon he's going to be making 7 mil +. He is vastly overrated.
