Well I was looking for some mutated possibly undead hockey player, and that's what the interwebs had to offer.

Edit: Maybe more like this:

It's not being psychic. I'm basing my argument off of what we know in addition to probability. I'm not making stuff up out of thin are and saying "this is what will happen." I am being reasonable.
- NickTheKid87

I believe you are being negative and a lacking faith that they could develop into exactly what you are saying they won't.

You are projecting out years ahead into the unknown, that is not being reasonable to at least me.

But have at it, you seem to have firmly planted you're feet in the ground with it.

Two different angles. Not expecting them all to develop and meet their potential is pretty reasonable, and how likely is that based on the odds? But looking at them as individuals and saying that none of them are rated that high, or looked as with the potential to become top pairing or even #1 defenseman. Is a different conversation.
- MJL

I agree, I may have mis-worded my thoughts earlier. What I meant, in terms of individual potential, is that none are currently considered to be like a Pronger, Doughty, Weber, etc. aka that "true" number one defensemen everyone wants.

You're wrong about me being negative because that's not what this is, it's probability. Second, it seems we're at an ideological and philosophical crossroads.

Those kinds don't always grow on trees, but I'd imagine if you dig deeper you'll find many more who ended up as a top pair player after spending time developing.

Ryan McDonagh, if I remember correctly, was a throw-in in the Higgins for Gomez trade.

Also, I'm under the strong impression that Shea Weber was grown on a tree as some sort of experiment gone horribly wrong/horribly right. There's no way one hockey player can be that awesome.

I'm interested in knowing what game you guys are choosing to watch tonight. On one hand, I've gotta see what Hagg, Gostisbehere and Sanheim can do but on the other hand this Read, Couturier and Simmonds line is interesting. Simmonds replaces Downie and they're leading the charge in London? I like it. Now on one hand I want to see how Umberger can make much of a difference for Lecavalier but on the other, Morin and Laughton are in London and I expect Laughton and Morin to see heavier minutes in key situations then Hagg, Gostisbehere and Sanheim.

Pick your poison guys.

He's one who certainly didn't jump into the league as a top pair, took some time to develop his game and is doing very well know even if it's for the Rangers.

Keep an eye on Sanheim, only 1 year of juniors and a ways to go but you can see the time of player he can be as he'll continue to develop.

With a stacked defense like that, the goalie is mostly irrelevant. You could win 17 Stanley Cups with a guy like Dominic Roussell or Michael Leighton.

Morin sure, he'll be a good one to watch.

He improved his game well as last year went on but still showed at least to me in my 20 plus viewings that he can benefit from another season with Rimouski.

That and he has a chance even if it's slightly on the outside of making the Canadian WJC roster.

I think it has a lot to do with the fact that most fans know that the defense lacks that top player, and hasn't developed much internally. So a lot of it is hope, and excitement that the team has a good staple of defensive prospects. But I agree that they're being overhyped somewhat. Not just in terms of how good they might be, but also how fast they are going to "come to the rescue".
- MJL

I want to see Simmonds drop a hat trick then rag doll the guy who threw the banana at him at centre ice.. On the sportsnet talk show, the guys were advising all London hockey fans to leave their fruit at home for tonight's game.. hah

That chance is really gonna depend on if other players (Pulock, for example) make the jump to the NHL this year. I think he'll get a camp invite but is a bubble player.
