I love the Velvet Von Black song.
"She could suck the gay out of a painting of a unicorn" - A_SteamingLombardi
how does one top that juicy quotation nugget
Edit: incidentally, if you ever want to get a prospective lass impressed, just show her all the black velvet paintings of unicorns and moonbeams which you've collected since Kindergarten. Two words - boink city |

Just checked the Vegas books: 55/1 on Vancouver. I like those odds. I'll put a Ben Franklin on that.....I would have put us at 10/1. I think the 'irrelevant team' is about to stomp some relevance back into a tough western conference. |

I hope you're a big winner!
I see the team being much better than last season, but I don't see the scoring depth as having improved enough to get past the first round. |

Healthy Sedins, Burrows, improved Kassian & Hansen and adding Bonino and Vrbata I believe can add 50- 60 goals.
No Tortz will add another 100 |

I don't know. I work in the psychology field, so I think locker room culture HAS EVERYTHING to do with a teams success/failure, and I'm big on that. Even all the players that have been around awhile say it: it's all mental; The whole game is mental. On paper, sure..I am have no reason to be as optimistic as I am, we stack up (at best) average. If you look at recent stats, well below average.
That said, I like W.D., like a lot. Fine character, good guy- rare breed of leadership with an unbelievable touch to turn mediocrity into success . I trust Benning, that boy has been on fire all summer- will continue to trust his judgement to make adjustments as needed. Linden? Totally. Being an AZ resident, I have seen Radim Vrbata play a ton, he's pure gold. Pure Gold, trust me. Miller....godda*n good enough, gonna have to be. Somebody has to win it, why not Vancouver? As for the rest, the most elite highly talented underperforming bunch there could be, which I chalk up to a problem (past tense) of a terrible culture under cancerous leadership. Hundred bucks says I'm right.
Western Conference Finals, or bust.
Or, I might be wrong, and I'm cool with it. |

Agree with most of what you've said, culture is sooo important, and last year was the cherry on top of the train wreck. I think extracting Kesler makes the team instantly better. But, I think they are still the third or fourth best team in their division, and will likely have to play one of LA, Chicago or St. Louis in round one. It's a long season, a lot can happen, I remain a fan either way. |

I think the only reason why TML has those odds is because the East an LSD pinball through DisneyLand in the playoffs compared to the West. |

I'm with you but there are others out there that would take that bet (and lose)
I'm interested to see SJ without Boyle, they might have to put Burns back on def. which will take away from their forwards. If the Sedins are loosing a step then so are Thorton and Marleau. |

Thank God for the start of long seasons. I love to speculate, do the math, pour over stats. Argue with people over the stats they've poured over. It's like a math battle, and sometimes just as boring, but what Else do you do in summer, right? To paraphrase/quote the Hockey News Editors Note: I'm glad the game is played on ice, not on paper. Anything can & will happen.

At least you get to enjoy the season from the comfort of your air conditioned home, or 95 degree swimming pool. |

Those guys, maybe the whole team has something to prove. Hopefully they will prove that last year was just a 1 off and at least make the playoffs. If they can't prove that then Benning has some more work to do.
Looking forward to seeing it play out. |
