It's practice.

It's an exhibition.

It doesn't count.

Half the skaters on each team won't be around in two weeks.

But it's still fun when they win.

A bunch of them will be gone by tomorrow morning, it doesn't take 2 weeks to figure it out.

I like the fact that the ice gets scraped before the OT period starts. I allows for better play, hopefully more games get decided in Ot so we don't have to watch the shoot-out this season.

Who's wearing #2? That was not a Keith shot.
- powerenforcer

He seemed to concentrate on getting shots thru tonite - not always on net, but at least not into shin pads right in front of him.

Folczyk noted several times that they hadn't worked on special teams yet, but it seems that the PP looked a little different tonite - somewhat more down low play than last year.

And they protected Darling - who had a couple of nice saves, but some rebound control issues - only 8 SOG in about 28 minutes.

Honestly grinder,

It doesn't really much matter. Because I'd still rather have guys that aren't on the team to play three minutes (Jeremy Morin is an exception ).

Mashinter will be depth in Rockford. I'd think the Hawks would be in some big injury trouble if he's playing in the NHL this year.

- prd797

Q likes having a guy that can fill that role...thus one of the three will likely stick for spot duty. He also said (same interview) that he doesn't like the staged fights. I think we all agree with that one. They are pointless. Agree though, a guy like Morin shouldn't sit in favor of an enforcer

How was the second period? Was watching "Gotham" with the misses.

Anyone else think Morin has gained some jump this year?

IMO, definitely looks at least a step/step-and-a-half quicker (

- savvyone-1

Since being drafted Morin has worked on the mechanics to replace the short choppy steps he continues to regress to.
The real upshot is when he plays "choppy", it doesn't slow him, as much as it wears him down by the end of the matches and has crappy late game results in coverage and O.

No time to backread. Nobody asked, either. But....

--- Bass reminds me of Craig Adams. I like Adams, not sure about Bass yet.
--- Daneault reminds me of Kyle Calder. If he can wiggle out of a scrum with the puck like Grease that would be good. But he better have a good head because he doesn't have the legs.
--- I'd like to see a little more of #33 goalie. Thought he did ok.
---Morin will be concussed likely by haloween, surely by thanksgiving. Seems a little better with his stride but he is still unaware of his surroundings. Heads up dude, you're not a kid anymore.
---Never seen a guy all over the ice like Mashinter. Pond hockey player.
---Not even talking about the goal, but Kane has the finest hands I have ever seen.
--- And sorry, Savvyone, but Leddy is a goner. Nobody blows through the neutral zone like him, but Q obviously is more comfortable with Cumiskey. No worse in his own end and maybe a step up on Leddy right now. Doesn't have the explosive speed, but is more controlled when rushing the puck. Outlet passing is pretty good. He is a midget D man but a pretty good one. Has a better handle on the flow of the game than Leddy. Still hope they can keep Leddy around, but he is probably too expensive.
--- It's early, but the PP was a buzzkill tonight. Looked like same old same old to me.
--- Someone said here a while ago that Dahlbeck was comparable to Hjalmarrsson. He is rough around the edges, but i can see it.
--- at the scrimmage the guy named Lebria or something like that had to have a size 24 neck.Thought I was watching Van Dorp skate around.

Does Bowman want to win another Cup more than he wishes to wait another year for Lesdy to maybe take another step forward in development? The answer seems obvious.

I would prefer to keep young players just because I like to see prospects work out. But reality is that Oduya make morese sense, especially if he gives a home town discount. But then Oduya and Sharp both are leading candidates to be gone after the season. This is a development that is far away right now. If it does turn out that way.

The Morin concussion comment by 6628 post above is not good. Neither is it good that should he get his bell rung, TT recalled and same happens to him. And oh BTW I guess Mashinter then might have opportunity to stick his nose in on any transgressions. He is not a feared pugligist. Right? Does he deliver hard checks. That the team could use.

Ok Hawk, let me rephrase. If Morin continues to keep his head down he is likely to get his bell rung. Again. He should have learned by now. I fear for the guys safety.

As far as Machinter, he ran a bunch of guys in the scrimmage. But he was having trouble keeping up with and getting himself into position to run guys in the game. He just didn't get there. If he can fight real well he's a half step more functional than John Scott.

And don't forget, this was all initial impressions. A guy like Danauelt who people are high on but isn't highly mobile might take a little while to make an impression at this level. Or it might take me a while to see it. Doesn't mean he's a bad guy. And Leddy, he's like the sports car you can't afford after the baby's born.

Do you think this is the "break" Stan has been looking for? With Jordan Staal breaking his leg, any chance looks to be a trading partner?

The Canes really need some help down the middle now. The Hawks don't have much to offer in that department.

Not sure who up front for Chicago Stan would be willing to send over? I don't know if Versteeg would turn their crank. The only one would be Sharp and I don't think he's getting traded.

Lots of inaccuracies in that pilot imho plus I think they tried to introduce every possible character in one pilot episiode just because they could lol

Do the 'Canes have a wing on the roster that could slide over to center? Also, could they give Viktor Rask a look to start the season?

If they can fill that center hole in-house, perhaps they might want a winger like Versteeg?

I also thought Gotham was hysterical to attempt to make Commissioner Gordon's wife Barbara Essen as the former "close friend" of Montoya, who was also in a same sex relationship with Kathy Kane (Batwoman) in the comic.

But your are correct- whether it be the Superman Kills and has a kid with Lois movies,

...or the Green ARROW TV show using one of Batman's major villains, Ra's al Ghul, as the main protagainist this entire new season.

Me too....that pass by Richards was GOLD. Great touch, vision and completion. Terrific addition by Stan...signed Captain Obvious.

Thanks Captain

This is the line I am most looking forward to watch now that we have a legit center between these two studs. I'm also excited to see Versteeg's year, I'm actually expecting him to have a bounce back year after coming off that terrible season he has last year. Just overall, glad hockey is finall back

Always love your take 66

Would just say i thought the pp looked pretty decent, especially when Richards was out there. Hawks are going to score a lot of extra man goals with 91 on the ice.
