anyway, listen to what you like.

i was in your same boat at your age. popular music sucked. it was all synthesized crap with no guitars. i listened to classic rock stations until something happened that i liked. it'll happen eventually.

The only bad thing about it there is no one at my school that listens to the same music as I do, which is why I find myself talking music a lot on this site.

at least it's easier for kids now then it was for us.

we couldn't just type a band name in and listen to their songs for free to see if we liked it.

possibilities are endless now.

we also had to walk to school, uphill both ways, in the snow, with holes in our shoes. oh and backwards.

i kind of found a weird comfort in the fact that the kids at school weren't listening to what i was listening to. in grade school kids were listening to a-ha and poop. you tube that poop. it made me feel like i was the normal one.

I loved it though. that was what linked you to friends in highschool. Start talking to a kid in class about tunes and next thing you know your at his house with an 8 pack of Maxell tapes smoking grass and dubbing his collection. (frank) the digital age, I wouldn't trade the social aspect of the old days for nothin'.

exactly. that's how you knew who thought like you, so you made sure you weren't becoming friends with someone you'd have to eventually bury in a shallow grave behind their house.

(frank) I hate being young, missing out on the 90's. The day I fear is when a person asks what a CD is

yeah, it's pretty bad out there right now. but there's always bad stuff anyway. even when i had better rock in the 90's we still had to deal with new kids on the block and the spice girls.

hey, i had plastic cassettes you could rewind with a pencil.

and i missed some good stuff in the 70's but then the 90's happened.

with any luck the roaring 20's will produce a ton of poop you love.

Well I was into the Punk/Metal scene in the pre grunge days so it was pretty easy on the first day of school to figure out who your buddies were gonna be. I got along well with both crowds and the skaters too back then. You always had the punkers that were too elitist to listen to metal and the bangers that were too ignorant to look beyond metal, but I liked both so there always something new to discover.

I'm staying with the 90's man. Alt rock is just the best. Rap is just and that is what it all is nowadays. that or poopty pop.

Me too man, totally. Listened to metal in elementary (Iron Maiden, Priest, etc), evolved into Thrash by Jr High(Metallica,Megadeth,Slayer,Anthrax) and then decided to look into that Misfits band that were on all all the Metallicas guys T-Shirts in the metal mags and that opened my eyes to a whole new genre.

there is good some good stuff now even on the radio. they beat it to death but a friend of mine has a little record label and had the black keys signed before they got big so i was in early on them and they are pretty good. stuff like that i can listen to.

but i can't take halestorm and avenged sevenfold and all that stuff.

it probably helped us form our opinions about what we liked and now i feel like i can honestly just like whatever i want because the bottom line is if you like it you like it.

New Music scenes pop up all the time, similar to Seattle, just not as exposed.Mid to late 90's there was a brief surge of Heavy Southern Rock, Late 90's early 2000's there were some amazing bands coming out of Scandinavia and of course the California/Arizona desert stoner rock scene.... Some made it big, some didn't but there were some great bands in there.
Somewhere else will pop up again pretty soon.

Exactly. It's crazy how when you get older you learn to appreciate poop too, without the social stigma attached. My Metal head buddies and I would never give David Bowie a chance, and then in my late 30's I have most his catalogue on vinyl. Stupid that I never got into him when he was actively performing, but that's life I guess.
