gionta and gorges were solid parts of your team though so I think losing them will affect the team, how much is debatable though.
- Yeti1181

Gionta was still feisty but couldn't but up the numbers expected of him... he had to be let go, his production will be easily replacable.

Gorges main attribute was that he's great at blocking shots.... Gilbert should be an improvement if anything.

Not worried.

Gorges is more of a loss tan Gionta.

Could have been even worse... could have been stuck with Cody freaking Franson had Gorges not nixed the trade.

disagree. Gorges is an under-sized, low-skill third-pairing guy. he's not a physical presence. he's a blood and guts shot blocker who contributed little to positive play and was mostly lauded for "intangibles". i think he's a great fit on a rebuilding Buffalo team but Montreal absolutely needed to replace him with someone who could skate and move the puck. Gionta is still useful. 20 goals, versatile, smart. just too old for that contract.

Then we get McDavid, Kessel gets healthy by next season, and BAM!... Instant contender in just 1 year!!

Perfect plan.
