You got the 4th best center on the Avs, Paulie walnuts saw the writing on the wall and Roy and Sakic can't keep there jobs if they pay there 3rd or 4th line center 6.5 per season. Should they have tried to unload him at the deadline sure, but for what a 2nd round pick (Vanek) Instead they went for the playoff run to win some fans back in the seats. The way Avs look at it is we got Iggy for Paulie.

I like Statsny but it didn't fit for them to pay him. Who has the higher ceiling MacK, Dutchy, ROR or Paul. Who would have you let walk?

It could be coaching or putting the right players together on the ice. All those picks were good picks from both teams the Avs with similar crappy defense look to be on a faster track then the oilers

The Avs had a much stronger supporting cast to plug their high draft picks into. The Oilers stripped everything bare, and have struggled to get decent role players into the mix.

chicago's top six is better now, but avs top six is younger and all have pretty reasonable contracts.

Give the coaching a little credit this team minus MaCK with Varly in net sucked under the previous coaching staff. Roy has instilled his confidence in the entire group and it's showing on the ice. Hockey is relevant again in Colorado because of Roy and the confidence he gives these young players.

Roy certainly helps. He's very charismatic, which plays a huge role, but may cause him to burn out fairly quickly.

Not that coaches tend to have a long shelf-life in the NHL anyway.

The wild have the potential to be a really good team... if they can get consistent goaltending and literally ANY offence from their bottom 6.

of course they don't what they did last year was a maricle basicly they will regress a bit this year. THe best top two lines in hockey gos to the kings of course. they won the cup so that's the end of that.
