I definitely love what direction the team is trying to go in. It's great they recognize the deficiencies and are trying to fix it without selling the future. I really hope it all works soon. The lack of center depth is a little alarming, but it is fixable. Hopefully this team is tougher to play against this year and we can grind out some wins. - abware
The Center position isn't all that alarming. It looks bad right now, but I'm confident that we have the horses in the prospect pool for the future. I would look at extending Gordon for a couple more seasons, but by the time LD is 21 I bet we look good.
I feel like the build is almost over as far as talent acquisition .....just the process of development we need to wait on.
Hopefully by the 2016 draft the pieces are in place and we can stop worrying about 1st rounders. |

But I'm sick of waiting...
I think we really could use a stop gap 2/3C this year. 1 injury to Nuge or really any of our centers could be the end of competing this season.
I do agree a few years and we should be good, but we still need to think about this and next year. |

So am I. Call it a man crush but I love listening to him talk about the Oilers. I have total confidence in him, and he is for sure a man of action. I guess that's why I don't hate on Eakins as much as others. If he's good enough for Mac T, I guess he's good enough for me. - Jeropotato

when I hear mact disses from the crowd and they spout the usual nonsense, I generally respond with the usual stuff that is easily quantifiable and proven. but I also don't think nearly enough is made about how tough mact's job is. an undesirable destination that is hindered even further with the fact that they were rebuilding and had no chance of winning anytime soon. big names wont accept a trade here, nor will they sign here. so he has to build slowly through secondary pieces. and even overpay those guys to get them to agree to sign. add to that the massive amounts of deficiencies and holes the franchise had at all levels when he took the job.
he's done a masterful job thus far. and I truly believe that. even with that ugly season last year
it's funny how the haters love to troll us with "no one wants to play for the oilers".
but then of course don't mention that at all when asking; "why do the oilers concentrate so much on drafting?" or "whats taking so long?" or "why would mact sign that dude for so much? what an idiot"
so they get their cake and eat it too. essentially, they're either stupid or total douchebags. or both |

I'm sick of waiting too. I wouldn't worry much though. Mac T seems to have his finger more on the pulse of when teams want to make trades. Like the player, but I think if Nurse or Klef impress enough, Petry is a goner. Expect a small flurry of trades in kid November, and Mac t to be in on them. |

Agreed. I'm fine with arco as one of our nhl centres. But I think we need another. I suppose by game 9 we will know how leon is performing
As you boys eluded too, Mac t Is well spoken. I listened to his interview with bob Mackenzie and he reaffirmed he will do what's best for leon |

This. The window lickers on here drive me crazy. They think management is the entire issue, without realizing that managing a team in Edmonton has challenges that a team in California doesn't have. The funny thing is, all Canadian teams have the same issue to varying degrees. Most people living in Edmonton are living here because of the job market. If they could live anywhere and make the same kind of money they likely would.

Speaking of interviews. I was watching the camp interviews. I was really impressed with how Hall was responding. Very mature. I especially liked his answer about predicting where the Oil will place in the standings . |

In the 80's, people wanted to play in Edmonton... Because they were winning. I mean soon enough Oilers of new will be winning, maybe people would be coming here when we start winning again.
My take on it. |

I think you're correct to a certain degree, but the glitz and glamour of the big city seems to be way more important to the average dude these days.
Feels like that joe redneck from Saskatchewan used to want to play in canada, but now they see these bright lights, lower taxes and all with less pressure from less fervent fans.
It's a far more superficial world than it was in the 80's IMO.
My take is that Edmonton will never be a 'top' destination. Regardless of success. At the moment we're literally one of the bottom few. with a bunch of success, we certainly wouldn't be that low, but I doubt we ever get to the top 3rd even.
Maybe if we build an absolute dynasty ...... |

That was it. He didn't give a prediction and he explained why. It was very well done by him.
He also talked about Eakins and Yak and a few other topics. It was very Captain-like. |

In the 80's players made neater salaries....so living in New York City wasn't as appealing as it is today.
Also, in the 80's, there was no Carolina, Florida, Tampa Bay , Phoenix, SanJose or Anaheim to live in....so yeah, Edmonton as a winner, was somewhat appealing. |

How do you figure people wanted to play there? It was still the coldest and furthest to travel. You talk about the decade like you were somehow alive and living in it.....oh and (frank) OFF!!!! |
