Remember, he was coming back from the injury and was clearly not himself. I think he had zero points his first 10 games, but 15 in the next 16 or so.
- airjan23

AV challenged him before game 5 against pitt and he never looked back, neither did the rest though.

should play well in AV's mine to give him the C

Group A so far has kreider, stepan, MSL. Group B has nash, zucc, brassard. It's crazy how spot on brooks is literally all the time. He's got excellent sources from within the organization.

Its really amazing, undrafted warrior for us, his skate gets caught in a rut, and he is the worst ever and needs to be traded.

- mdw7413

People still won't let that go, it's ludicrous to think he's not a top pair shutdown defensman, take Girardi off this team and there's a big hole to fill

Why do you think Torts always hated him, Brooks could tell Torts what he was thinking before Torts even thought it

It took him a while to get back to normal and I fully believe that he re aggravated the injury against Philly when his arm went into the photographers cut out in the glass

remember, this is Brooks' job, to understand the inner workings of this team. He's been the beat writer for how long? I'm sure over the years he's gained trusted allies and knows how to interact with those who don't like him. Also, I'm pretty sure Slats uses him as a goto for leaking anything he feel needs leaking... think of him as Richardie Dunn!

Yup, rarely hurt, plays against the other teams top line. I don't even want to imagine what would happen to the D if he wasn't here. He is the perfect compliment to McDonagh.

You know, one of the forgotten guys with all the signings the Rangers made this summer is Jesper Fast. I think AV likes him, and I thought he played pretty well in the playoffs (as opposed to early in the season when he was o.k., but looked a little over his head). With that said, there is quite the logjam right now, and it will be tough for him to make the team.

If you assume that kreider, MSL, nash, stepan, brassard, zuccarello, hagelin, and moore have all locked up spots, that means there are 5 spots up for grabs (including a 13th forward) between malone, stempniak, lombardi, hayes, miller, fast, lindberg, and glass. And guys like kristo, borque, duclair, hrivik, etc. also have outside chances but chances nonetheless to grab spots.

I think Rick Nash needs to play with one of the two establish centers, Stepan or Brassard. I think playing him with a rookie at the pivot, at least to start the season, wouldn't take full advantage of the threat that we know he can be when he is going good. If he has to move to the left side to accomodate that, so be it.

Also, in proof that I actually read the blog, Jan, is Justin Falk still on the team? I may be wrong, but I thought he signed elsewhere.

I think part of the problem with Nash is that we always think to ourselves...'man if that guy could play with a center he'd be unstoppable...' but it never seems to work out that way, at least not with the centers that we have.

What established center was he playing with in Columbus when he was destroying the league? Maybe his full potential is reached when he is surrounded by 3rd liners and told to just go and do his thing.

Maybe you're right. I have heard it said about Nash that he is less center reliant that other wingers. But, at the same time, I still prefer to see him play in the top 6, and not with say, Hagelin and Miller on the third line. Although he has had some chemistry with Hagelin. I am basically arguing with myself here

I do agree that Nash should play in the top 6 but thinking about it, it might not be a bad idea to play him on the "3rd line". When he's on his game, he essentially creates offense all by himself. If Kreider - Stepan - MSL attract the opposing team's top defensive pair, they're all talented enough to continue to produce. This then let's Nash attract the 2nd pairing and let Zucc - Brassard run rampant against the weakest defensemen of the other team similar to last year (which I think contributed a lot to their success) or vice versa.

Also with it sounding like AV wants to use Miller and Hayes at center, where does that leave Oscar Lindberg? Before July 1st, I really thought he had a chance of making the team this year.
