Whats a realistic return for franson?
- MacMillsauce

Would arguably be more useful in a package to trade for preferably a better defender/older veteran...

The St.Louis Blues are laughing at us if we play polak with phaneuf on the first pairing

- DougGilmour_93

I haven't really seen him play much but from his fitness testing for the Blues sounds good. First in sprinting, stamina, Weight lifting. I want to see him 5-10 games before I judge him.

I don't think it was. They both bring a different style of game. The salary retained was rather unnecessary but oh well.

Gunner was overpaid for what he should have being doing. They needed to trade him but I would have thought they had a plan to replace him on the top pairing.

I think if we had bieska playing top line minutes here he would be ripped on worse then Phaneuf

We could have Pronger, Lidstrom, Niedermayer, and Stevens all in their prime, and they'd still all get ripped by the media/fanbase.

I don't know about that. Polak is a defense-first guy... it'll let Phaneuf do more of what Phaneuf's good at.

Putting Rielly out there would be bad for both guys, IMO.

Because franson with either rielly or gardiner is terrible Franson needs to go, id rather see tallinder in the 3rd pairing or a spot go to granberg or percy

Maybe not worse... Rielly ain't great defensively yet, either.

honestly, it's gotta be one of Polak or Robidas, IMO.

Strong defensive guys to let Phaneuf roam. Let Rielly and Gardiner play together against weaker competition, see what they can do. The advanced stats say they do a pretty good job together... and leave the other defensive d-man to play with Franson... he needs the help too.

That defeats then the whole purpose of Carlyles' brilliant master plan of having 3 left handed and 3 right handed defenders
