You wet your panties when the Leafs made the playoffs in a shortened season.

Get off that high horse.

- Pecafan Fan

Leaf fans are still revelling in that short season "success".

But the leafs are usually playoff team over half a season.

Its the other half were things get......Leafy.

if leafs played the trap...

man, id be pissed! zzzzzzzz

- Lucas Neilson

I've always liked to watch teams play a hard forechecking game. I don't like watching teams play the trap but I would not have complained last year if the Leafs had trapped the last 20 games of the season. If it got them into the playoffs then great. Anything would have been better than giving up 35+ shots a night and going 2-12 down the stretch.

try Lupul with JVR, dont think we have tried that one yet
- PinkSock

I always consider Kessel and JVR as the tandem you don't mess with. I think they have the chemistry and results this team craves.

the Leafs could of/can trim 15 shots of their total against if they just covered the damn points.

lol i dunno why you are being like that im just saying there are factors in a game the coach considers to ice his team in the best manor possible, from ice time, to faceoffs, to PK, PP, everything...
- Lucas Neilson

I am not being anything but agreeable,,, just with Lou and not you. Your a big boy, you can handle it.

I agree. Nothing pisses me off more than when they don't cover the points, especially on the penalty kill.

i agree, they want 2 scoring lines to be dangerous, last year it was 2 until christmas then the kadri line fizzled a bit.

A week ago or so I said, if they put Lupul, Bozak and Kessel on the same line( three righties) you lose those cross ice - two on one passes between JVR and Kessel, that was a lethal combo.

watch the games..then look at the stats and see if they align with what you saw

if they dont ..its good to question what you are seeing happen..maybe you are missing stuff

if you just say..well the stats are dumb then .. then thats how you feel

Might be just me but I like to watch a game and not have these preconceived stats in my head while I watch it, I rather just enjoy watching the game, I can leave the stats to analytic nerds, I really don't care about them, sucks the enjoyment out of the game for me.
- LeafMan

Which is exactly what I do. I watch the game like a fan, then reflect on it with available info.

Yup. By his own admission they had to change and play better and they didn't. They outscored their defensive deficiencies most of the year But couldn't do it in the last 20 games.

dumb stats

all of that? it's non quantifiable because it's subjective. and i can guarantee you that even if someone did gather that data, all we would hear is whining about unreliable the data was if it showed our players in a negative light. the stats we have are great and they're useful. but you seem to be looking at a system that eradicates the human element of scouting and managing.
- DoubleDown

d'ya think?

Actually, I just want to quantify something that I see as a serious flaw that the Leafs seem to repeat continuously. I want some numbers to bear out the fact that they do not do specific, fundamental things very well.

The only stat I check are the scoring leaders (leafs and league) and standings. That is all I need to know, lol.

fair point BUT the main issue is that you used a one game sample size. any stat nerd or advocate will be the first one to tell you that data without a meaningful sample size is useless.
- DoubleDown

Yeah and I have consistently been told that any sample size that belies the advance stats is meaningless (68 games, too small) ... but the 14 game sample size that followed proved the stats are right!

As I have said so many times. You cannot debate the efficacy of advanced stats with some people because they simply ignore when the stats are wrong and as soon as they "work", you get an "I told you so".

Could the same not be said about the people who do the stats.
So many chances for human error.
