In the NHL? I have no idea, I haven't been to other rinks to evaluate all that stuff... but the ESPN thing is trash. Are they saying the Sens Org is better? And Sens fans get more bang for the buck because tickets are cheap? Crap. I would rather be a fan of the Toronto gong show then Ottawa or a number of other teams...

I don't agree. Predicting a small sample size is not easier with "advanced stats".

I am not yet convinced they tell us anything predictive on a larger sample size. For example, most of us will just look at the Leafs roster, allow some injuries, and take a wild guess that they will struggle for the last playoff spot; probably finish 8-10 in the east... without ever looking at a spreadsheet.

In fact, most of us predicted that last year, without using stats.

What the stats allow for is a hard look at where players are, and to see who is playing above, or below, their average. Along with death and taxes, regression to the mean is a near certainty, and the stats can give insight into whether something is sustainable or not. I don't doubt that some of them are misused, and looking just at Corsi will tell you nothing; an in depth look at ALL of the information available to you however can be extremely useful
