Woa, that is some gritty stuff right there

Meh, BB was right. Teemu was slowing down and showing his age. He has mad skill, and was a great player, but sometimes you have to go with youth.

I remember everyone freaking out in Vancouver for a long time, when AV was cutting back Lindens time..on ice, on PP, just in general. He was slowing down and their were replacements who could do his job as good now, and they needed the development to take the next step.

Player at that age need to accept that and Linden did, he never once complained, even after retiring.

BB was likely making the right call, and Teemu is holding onto his past. Don't get me wrong, he is a great HOFer.

Naw, I fully expect the media was to be handled so the focus today would be on the vets and regulars from last season mostly. We just had the media talking with the kids for the last week.

Exactly, plus there are still tickets to sell.

menh, with little effort and the extra TOI he could have reached sedin levels of pts last year. Oh wait.....i guess you're right, he was on a downward slide

Read this from bottom up, pretty interesting:

Juha Hiitelä @jhiitela
”Season started well, but after that my time on ice declined, just like previous year. He didn’t keep any of his promises."

Juha Hiitelä @jhiitela
”He even said he wants to see me scoring my 700th goal."

Juha Hiitelä @jhiitela

”BB promised (b4 season) that I will play 1st PP unit and 2nd PP unit and get average of 15min ice time…"

Juha Hiitelä @jhiitela
He also says he had doubts about resigning to Ducks in 2013, because of BB. Considered going to either LA Kings or… yes, Winnipeg Jets.

Juha Hiitelä @jhiitela
"I got to play with Getzlaf the next four games, scored two goals and four points. After that everything went back to way it was before."

Juha Hiitelä @jhiitela
He met with BB after olympics: "I told him that I’ve I can’t succeed in that, you can totally forget me."

Juha Hiitelä @jhiitela
”... you’re going to need me. Nobody else wants to win as much as me. It felt really good."

Juha Hiitelä @jhiitela
"He tried to skate away but I just yelled I wasn’t finish. I told Boudreau if you ever want to win something in a playoffs…"

Juha Hiitelä @jhiitela
"I ask which group and he said GM and scouts. I yelled him "whow, what kind of a coach you are if you don’t even decide lineup!”."

Juha Hiitelä @jhiitela
"Be honest for one time and answer.! He just stammered that decisions we not his alone and it was a group decision."

Juha Hiitelä @jhiitela
"he has not respected me one bit. You never put me on ice when we play 5on3 of 4on4 or when we are one goal behind in the end of the game."

Juha Hiitelä @jhiitela
" I yelled him right to his face what I was thinking. I ask what he has against me. I told him that since he became our coach…"

Juha Hiitelä @jhiitela
After BB decided to scratch him for game 4 against Dallas: "I waited after everyone else had left the ice and skated to Boudreau…"

Juha Hiitelä @jhiitela
”You are as good as you your coach wants you to be. If we had any other coach, I’d still be playing.” -Teemu

Juha Hiitelä @jhiitela
”It would have been wrong if we had won the Stanley Cup with coach like that.” #teemu

Juha Hiitelä @jhiitela
Ok… Here’ comes couple of tweets about Teemu and his relationship with Bruce Boudreau. All from Teemu’s new book.

Good grief - and isn't BB supposed to be a 'player's coach' ? if that's the case, think how bad it must of been under T-man (note I didn't mention his name, as per the HockeyBuzz protocol and discussion provisions)

I know you're trying to troll me. But in fact you are right. They are slowing down, and in the next 2 - 3 years I expect them to be the 2nd line on this team, and eventually the 2nd PP as well.

The quicker guys like Horvat, Shink, Virtanen develop the quicker they start stealing ice time.

I initially felt that Teemu needed to have his ice time reduced as was clearly occurring, but then he had that Olympic performance. I'm just shocked to see so much animosity from someone who is so seemingly quiet and easygoing

Is it Scotland or Britain? I havent checked yet....

John Oliver suggested that the Scots had adopted the Unicorn as their national animal the other night on his show. I couldn't say for sure if its true.

I think it comes down to communication. If BB had spoken to Teemu regularly about performance, expectations etc. I doubt it would ever have gotten to this place. Did anyone watch any of that first 24/7 show on HBO with the Caps? BB is definitely NOT a players coach.

Yea I guess I take it for granted that a coach would have that discussion with his player

Frankly, I'm also surprised - firstly, that BB is made out to be such a harsh and disrespectful coach, to the fact that Selanne is made to look like a bit of a prima-dona. Not good for either parties.

I'm not sure I necessarily agree. Selanne has been in the league for 20 years and I think he knows what the business is about and how to act like a pro. There are probably dozens of stories about players getting into arguments over ice-time, quality of line-mates etc etc. Most, however, suck it up and just play the game

P.S. don't get me wrong, I think it's beyond outstanding Selanne can play at this level at this stage in his life and be successful. Incredible

PPS - you are both right, however, in that the more communication there is, the less friction/frustration is likely to boil over.

I feel like calling out his old coach at this stage of the game is pretty tasteless, but BB comes off as a big old wussy in the interview, not that Teemu looks too much better

I agree, I think this 'he said/he said' make both come across as being unprofessional which, as touched on, is a bit surprising, at least in Teemu's case (neither one looks good in all of this, though) But I can understand that a player in his position has earned the right to state his case. Teemu is a very proud individual and you can obviously tell that he is very passionate about the game and wants to be 'that' guy.

At least he cares and wants to contribute as much as he can. As it shows that he still has a significant love of the game. It would be worse if he didn't show any emotion and just didn't care what happened
