Yeah but Kesler wanted out, Johansen wants to be in Vancouver. - blacksheep1
Idk if he specfically wants to be in Vancouver. I just think he has no interest playing for the Blue Jackets.
At no point was this kid getting 6.5 per, and him and his agent haven't budged an inch. This kid wants out, and I think he'll get his wish within the next week and a half to two weeks. |

He knows that he's worth more to the Blue Jackets than Nathan Horton so why not pay him like it??? All Kekalainen is doing is hurting the relationship with this young star. |

I'm sure Benning has spoke with Columbus, and Van does have centers / prospects who may be available. |

Wow sounds like a pretty good deal for both sides. Odd on a hockeybuzz forum |

I’m sure Overhardt would figure out a way to f*ck up any type of deal. Benning no doubt has had enough of him. |

It's getting absurd. While I believe both parties are at fault here, it's hard to not put 80% of the blame on the agent and player. Demand is highly unreasonable, but you cannot as the president of the team make the negotiations public. - Velcro300
I agree to a point... but if you're running a small-market team coming off the most successful season in team history and trying to stabilize your business with better ticket sale revenue, I think there's legitimate value to explaining why your best player isn't under contract or even at training camp. From the sounds of it, Johansen's agent is having no problem with manipulating the situation to hold the team over the barrel, so I'll cut the Blue Jackets' management some slack if they want to shine some light on this attempted extortion. |

Why?
Because the next one that comes along will push you around as well, then you get into a point where you have zero cap flex (either because you are at the max, or you are at the self-imposed max).
Also, there is implied pressure (not going to say otherwise, or it would be collusion) from other teams to not create a new level / precedent that will be used against the other 29 teams. |

He's their franchise center. He knows it, they know it, everybody knows it. I wish the gm's would quit being such pussies and use offer sheets more often. It's in the cba. Why not use it? If you're not going to use it then take it the (frank) out of there |

There is the whole, we'd have to pay the prima donna and his master the 6.5M per as well.
And then have to deal with the renegotiation in 2 years as well.
Do you think he deserves 6.5M, based on what he has done in the NHL/AHL so far.
I sure as hell don't. |

This. Unless he really does want out. Before anyone gives me quotes from the agent, I'm well aware of them, wouldn't be the first time an agent lied publicly. |

im pretty sure he is, all RFAs are eligable to be offersheeted, expect Schwartz, he has some certain age/games played/years in the league CBA thing going on that stops a team from doing so. |

Same with Krug and Smith, it is rare for a player coming off his ELC to be eligible unless he played the whole three years like Johansen |

You're assuming there are all kinds of GM's in the NHL would would jump at giving Johansen over $7M/yr on a short-term contract for having put up all of one NHL season of 30G/60Pts... on top of handing over compensation, and dealing with the negativity of making a predatory move on another team's young player. Not to mention that most GM's know that the team would almost certainly match the offer anyways, so all it really does is for the team making the offer sheet is risk driving up the prices of their own young players when they come up as RFA's. |

Well Kurt Overhardt has a son playing for the winterhawks, he's draft eligible next year, so Kekka could draft him and hold him hostage |

I dont think hes worth the high draft pick compensation either to give him one at that 6.5m range, so I dont think he gets an offersheet.
Unless he is tired of holding out, signs a 2 year deal offersheet like ROR did, which is under what he is askin for and matchable by the Jackets so he is back in Columbus doing his thing. |

It may be worth it for a team like Chicago or LA who are pretty much guaranteed to be late 1st round draft picks. Especially Chicago seeing that they need a second line center but none of the high end teams have the cap room to fit him in. Doubt any bottom 15 team takes the risk with the Mcdavid/Eichel draft coming up. |
