Really not surprised at the Timonen presser. Figured he was out for the foreseeable future. It would have been somewhat better for the Flyers if he did retire, but if he had, he would likely have forfeited $2mm as well as access to the Flyers medical facilities and doctors.

If he doesn't return, the good news is that his bonuses will not carry over to next season.

First and foremost my thoughts are with Kimmo, and hoping he get's this issue taken care of, and it doesn't cause him any long term health issues. Not so much so he can play again, but more for the rest of his life. He may be old for Hockey, but still a young man.

But it's just another in a long line of freak injuries and bad luck for the Flyers Organization. Timonen is still a pretty good player, and it hurts to lose him due to a medical issue that didn't occur on the ice.

Well that presser was depressing. More than anything though I think it was more to clarify things for the media so they give it time before they start their usual bullpoop.

Hoping Kimmo stays healthy and remains in the organization after this season. Guy is clearly the next Flyer in line to be inducted to the Flyers Hall of Fame. And to say that about a guy that just stopped playing really says something.

Peperoni and Mushrooms is my go to pie but the place I frequent makes four pizzas I love. The aforementioned Alfredo Chicken, a Buffalo Chicken, A Taco Pizza and an A1 Steak... Salami, Mushrooms and Sweet Peppers is also a delightful topping combination and all red pizza must have extra sauce or it's no pie folks.

Yeah, it makes sense to get in front of the train and feed the media before their speculation becomes a distraction.

Kimmo will probably head home to Finland to run the team he owns with Sami Kapanen.

Before the Alfredsson meltdown, they appeared to be trending up. They seem to be a much less attractive landing spot since then.

I couldn't agree more and this response does give me a few thoughts about the Flyers current situation. Mind you, we're not nearly as the Maple Leafs current situation or the Senators but I think about the moves made leading up to now.

Could we have got Luke Schenn for Scott Hartnell instead of James van Riemsdyk? JvR-Giroux-Voracek would be an incredible line for the Flyers but because Hartnell just happened to get hot and JvR had a hiccup, we lose a young, talented, front line winger. This team misses JvR even today because when a player such as Evander Kane goes on to the market, we recognize that there is a fit for him here. Sure there are other important needs such as a number one defenseman but Giroux does need a legitimate scoring winger too, on his left side. I think Hartnell would have waived to go to Toronto to play with good buddy Joffery Lupul and I wouldn't even bring up Bobby Ryan if I didn't think we needed him.

I understand why we signed Lecavalier and I like Lecavalier. Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier both had tough goes during their sophomore seasons. Regardless if fans like the signing or dislike the signing, Brayden Schenn's position would remain in limbo because of the drafting of Scott Laughton. I like what I've seen of Laughton but I do sometimes wonder what might be if we had drafted defenseman sooner or a young defenseman. I'm not in the least a fan of the "Best player available" attitude.

Good for Hextall for coming out and saying he favours defenseman and going to the draft to get one. I'm really liked that Jsaq came and said it first. He expects Travis Sanheim to be a better all around defender, while everyone else continues to compare Morin to Pronger. It would be incredible if Samuel Morin could reach that ceiling but that might be begging for disappointment.

Sorry about the rambling. I was just thinking about what might have been. This isn't a knock against Holmgren, I think he's done a fantastic job.

I didn't expect Timonen to retire and walk away from 2M bucks.

Timo came back for one more year because of a 2M contract?

You actually believe that?

He came back to have a chance to win a cup and make $3.5 million. But now he can't play there's no reason for him to walk away from the $2m he is guaranteed.

No he came back to try and win the Stanley Cup again, obviously. Do you actually believe that I think he came back for the money? My thought wasn't that he came back for the money, but that he wouldn't just willingly give up 2M bucks. Pretty simple

Personally, I don't think that the Flyers could've gotten Luke Schenn for Hartnell. Toronto was looking for youth in return.
And also, I really hope the Flyers don't go after Bobby Ryan. Not the kind of player I want them to go after.

I understand why some fans wouldn't want Ryan and why some fans would. We could hope Voracek takes another big step this season, there is no reason why he can't. One of Simmonds or Schenn could be a nice compliment to Giroux. At the same time though, if the Flyers are looking for the perfect sidekick for Giroux and choose to take on a player outside of the organization, it would seem that Ryan is the only possible available player who might not cost assets.

I'm not interested in getting into a long term high cap dollar deal with a player like Ryan. He's too one dimensional, and lacks certain elements in his game to get into a deal for what it's going to take in my opinion.

That is why I would be interested. I dont care where he's from. If you can fit a guy like that in on the left side without giving up assets you do it. It helps too that he would probably mesh pretty well with Giroux and Jake.

But obviously it's not just having the cap room to sign a guy. It's what you give up to get that cap room. We are going to have to lose some serious salary to get Ryan and it becomes a question of what is realistic and what makes sense. Moving Vinny, complete contract and all, for a pick isn't very realistic. Maybe Ghost and MDZ have really good years and they decide to keep the two and move AMac. Something like that is needs to happen to fit Ryan in here.

Really would depend on how much the Cap goes up, and what a guy like Ryan would sign for. Flyers don't have a lot of player that need to be re-signed in the off season. They're probably going to have considerable cap space available to them.
