Arb would get him more in the long run and UFA status would get him even more at the time. It's about money, just future money.

I think it's a good contract for him. If something happens to him then he's still guaranteed $30 million. It takes him right to age 28 as well. Some prime years for him that he can bank 10+ (probably 12+) for another 8 years.

And honestly, he has to "give up" a few million because he just isn't worth it. Cheechoo got 50 goals one year! Would you give him an eight million dollar contract based off one year?

If what somebody said before is true, that his agent said its only about money then f*** him. Since when does a .76 PPG in ONE season earn you top calibre money in the league? Every team is a business. You don't invest a stupid amount of money in a big question mark.

After a season like his it's either a long term contract 4-5 mil or a bridge deal 2-4.
