You know how many teams are going to be on him? You get him for the cheapest you can, but I doubt you are getting him for peanuts.
- Lahey

I know, but Eberle is really sending something away.

In past situations where players want out you see the team take a quarter and 2 dimes in exchange for their dollar.

Ebs is a lot to give up. A young, cost controlled 65+ point winger. Thats a top 20 scorer with a lot of career left.

I just can not see the jackets letting this kid go. He is the closest thing to a franchise player since Nash.
- wilcops3

I honestly won't be surprised that it gets to the point where Overhardt/Johansen just say "(frank) you guys, I'm out"

What does Columbus do then? Sit on a depreciating asset or take 65 cents for their dollar.

If some of the rumblings of early negotiations are anything, he isn't interested in a contract taking any UFA years up

Gregor brought up the cost of acquiring Johansen, and honestly, if contract disputes are still going bad, we should make the call.

Columbus made their offerings public:

Two year deal at $3 million per season.
Six years at $5.33 mill/season.
Eight years at $5.75 mill/season.

So what I would do is move Eberle + 2nd good asset for Johansen and sign him to a 2 year 5.5 mill per deal. To me that's a good balance between giving him the money he wants short term and lowering the term committed to him.

Signing Derek Morris also opens up the ability to move Petry if he isn't willing to sign long term. Maybe Petry is included in the deal for Johansen, they could use another right hand defender.

Just read we might be interested in Morris as a PTO. Not Morris the alien, Derek Morris.
- Lahey

We need more Morris in these threads. The alien Morris not the over the hill NHL player.

Just pick up vito from the vet and they gave him a ton of sedatives to calm him down, now I have a drunk dog he keeps trying to walk but his back legs aren't working to well so he gets like threw steps then just stands their swaying back and forth with blood shot eyes.

i dont wanna get into the debate of eberle being locked in and how much that raises his value etc. or cbj being behind the 8ball and a position of weakness. all of these makes value extremely debateable.

but just pure talent and upside, the offer ystoil proposed was not way outta line.
a guy with ryjo's size and skill at center is worth more (possibly a great deal more) than jordan eberle who is a complimentary scoring winger.

I agree. CBJ will get low ball offers, but at the end of the day there is rarely that many guys in RJ's situation that become available. The age, the draft pedigree and the fact they he already showed he can play goes a long way.

He's really a guy that any team who is retooling/rebuilding could pick up and damn near say they have enough to be done with the crap years and are ready to start climbing out of the hole.

I wonder just how hard Nashville would go for him.

Like, they went balls out to try and get Lecavalier...

Think of a deal similar to what Boston got for Seguin....

cmon brah

ill give u perron and eriksson being 'relative' in value. (at least after last year)
i dont wanna say too much about smith before last year. but chiarelli insists he wanted him and knew he was a quality nhl'er.
and musil is certainly not on par with morrow.

Or as it was at the time,

a top line winger leaving his best offensive years
a solid wing prospect (who turned in a great season no one expected)
a 2nd hand former top D prospect that has continually slid down the depth chart everywhere he's been

Tyler Seguin, Rich Peverley and Ryan Button to the Dallas Stars for Loui Eriksson, Joe Morrow, Reilly Smith, and Matt Fraser.

Essentially that could work out too:

Ryan Johansen + Letestu + Goloubef for Jordan Eberle + Jeff Petry + Oscar Klefbom + Pitlick
