Besides Downie and Car-Bomb, I am most looking forward to seeing Scuds this year; I honestly think he is going to turn it around and really step up for us this year. His injury was worse than reported.

I was listening to Dejan K on the radio the other day and he says Scuds was significantly hampered by the ankle after he returned. He also said Reardon told him that he couldn't believe he was playing on it.

Take it FWIW, but apparently Scuds has heard the fans displeasure and is determined to turn it around. Who knows, but I think it's an interesting story line to see if he does.

I fully believe that Scuds will turn it around, and hope that he does.

Ouch. Calling Adams out. As it was said, he's deserving of criticism and the time is up for him I'd say, but that's surprising, even though Fitzy is usually forthcoming.

I didn't take it that way really at all. He wasn't going to say to kids in the AHL, "Hey, if you can take Crosby's spot, its yours"

Furthermore, I took it as a sign of respect for Adams basically saying the AHL kids have to prove they're better than Adams rather than Adams proving that he's better than the kids....which the latter is probably more realistic scenario....

Omitting any name there is probably best.

Agree. Either way I think we're reading too much into it.

Exactly. Of course not. He's pointing out that Adams doesn't have ANYTHING locked up. Essentially pointing to him as being replaceable. Adams is certainly that. Crosby isn't. Not to nitpick but you might be avoiding the obvious statement he was making and going to the totally opposite spectrum. I like Adams as a person but in hindsight re-signing him before and then letting Gibbons walk was a mistake. We don't have a kid in the system that can replace any Top 6 players just yet. We have plenty that can replace Adams.

Trade him and a 4th for Adam Erne.

Edit: by "him", I mean Samuelsson....and maybe a itd be a 3rd instead of a 4th...

No takers on this random minor league trade proposal?

I also heard those "whispers" about Nealer was unfounded. He apparently wasn't the friendliest of interviews for the press, but he wasn't a problem in the locker room. I think both Yohe and Dk reported that.

Honestly, if Samuelsson turns into Brian Strait, I don't think any of us will be crying ourselves to sleep that night.

The Penguins just have so many young Dman who seem to have higher upside than Samuelsson (23yrs) - Despres (23yrs), Dumoulin (23yrs), Maatta (20yrs), Harrington (21yrs), and Pouliet (20yrs). Can't keep them all & i'd rather have any of the 5 players I listed over Samuelsson.

- s0rcerer1984

That's where I'm at with him... I sure could be wrong, but I don't see him ever being more than a bottom pairing guy in the NHL.

I can't imagine Samuelsson having a much higher ceiling than Brian Strait. Strait played top pairing minutes as an alternate captain on a national champion team, and was captain of a world junior team. A lot of our interest in Samuelsson by Pens fans is based on who is father was. If his name was Samuel Phillipson, he'd be just another in a long line of mid level defensive prospects like Brian Strait, Carl Sneep, Alex Grant, etc., who can become everyday NHL players if things work out in their favor.

The adams comment was a nothing comment to me. It might as well have been followed with him saying "no one's done it last few years" which clearly wasn't the case.

A Richard move singling out Adams, even with the fanbase giving a standing O for the thinking.

I like JR wanting to be aggressive at the deadline. There's way too many quality D-men to even start this season though and I wonder if after camp he makes a move. (Wasn't it an E5 over the weekend with Montreal?)

He would single out Adams but not Fluery? Me thinks that a certain someone read into this interview what he wanted and what fit his individual bias

If he signed long term maybe. Awfully steep for a rental (never mind the fact that we cant afford him!)
