Haha no, I knew where he was goin with thAt too. Which is kind of my point, Nuge is bigger than lots of guys, doesn't make him physical. I think to much emphasis is being put on making teams bigger. I'd rather have a team full of guys like Bennett and Byron that plAy big than a team full of colbornes who don't utilize their size anyway. |

Ya I wasn't trying to put you down or anything, this is just something that I hear in every day conversations, and it's just starting to piss me off
For example it seems that 6'3 is the magic height. If a players 6'3 184 he's a big (frank)er 6'1 184= small. Nobody seems to care how the player plays anymore colbornes as big as they come, but I've seen Byron throw bigger hits more frequently. - Saskabush
I agree. Sometimes I see people say he has good size at 6'1 200 but if they are 6' 210 they are a bit undersized. It's very inconsistent |

My point is that once Bennett fills out he will be a pretty fearsome player, you don't need to be 6'4 to throw a hot or work along the boards. At 6'1 190 pound Bennett would be a speedy wrecking ball that would make even some of the NHLs biggest look twice when he's on the ice. - Saskabush
Weight has a lot to do with board work. But lower body strength is definitely the most important. Some of the best players down low ever are crosby (200 lbs), hossa (210 lbs), and Jagr (230 lb). All of them has such big asses they can't fit into regular sized jeans. All of there weight is in their legs.
PS I actually had no idea that jagr was 6'3" and 230 lbs. |

It is very much how you play the game. The best players play the game by protecting the puck. RNH does not protect the puck well down low. He is great on the rush and even better when he has space. He is still growing into his body. |

I would like to point out I like that the NHL is not putting ads on the jerseys.
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=461971
I would hate to see ads on the jerseys like they have in europe. I would be ok with the ads if they were small and blended in with jersey. Like the Bauer on the gloves. I don't even think of that. Maybe on the shoulders were the canada and alberta flags are. However, the design must be approved by some sort of aesthetics committee. |

I think they aren't putting ads on yet because they want more money. 120mil is a lot, but at the same time if you are going to mickey mouse your jerseys you are going to want more than 4mil a team.
It's coming, it's just a matter of time. |

The NHL just doesn't want to be the first major North American sport to put ads on the jerseys. As soon as one of the big boys down there start doing it (and take the brunt of the criticism) they will follow suit. It is my hope that the NHL never allows there jerseys to sell out to the extent of European leagues, I could deal with a patch on the front (like the molson export patch on the alouettes jerseys) but stickers on the helmet and big ugly banners is to (frank)in far

You could see they were up to something last year or the year before with that whole new uniform rule. Don't want the players to sell the space as they are going to eventually make a ton of money.
I agree with not going full blown euro, but I have to think part of that is that they don't make as much so they need that income. Hopefully the NHL will never get that far, but in 100 years from now it's probably gone to be like that. |

That's the whole point. How is it that Nuge is too small to be even a non-physical player in the NHL at 195lbs, but that's an okay weight for Bennett ,who will mix it up a Hell of a lot more? I know , people are hung up on the perception that Nuge is still rocking his rookie weight. |

Who wouldn't? The Nuge /Bennett comparison isn't about size. Nobody with half a brain will tell you Nuge>Bennett because he's bigger. |

Pencil JG in folks...there is no way he doesn't make this team.
Sending him to the AHL isn't going to help him out...he's not gonna grow any taller and a few more pounds on the frame won't matter either.
What does matter is that he's good enough, bottom line. I know everyone yaks about the "first goal, first shot" thing in his first game last year, but what I think gets lost is how he played the rest of that game. He was creating plays all over the ice and even made some of the Canucks D men look like they were the rookies. He backchecked hard and even had a few good takeaways. I just cant see a scenario where he doesnt find a spot in the top 9.

If he's good enough, he probably should make the team, but don't discount what the AHL can do for his development. Bigger, stronger, older players, longer season, more ice time...there's lots of good lessons to learn down there. |

A lot of guys look good in their first NHL game. Adrenaline runs wild for a lot of guys. Didn't Brunnstrom score 3 in his first game?
I'm not saying he's gone to boom or bust, but comments like this were quite common on the Oiler boards the past 5 years on a lot of guys not named Hall, Eberle, or RNH. |

I actually didn't think JG looked very good in his first game. He scored a goal specifically because the dman didn't see him sitting in front of the net. Any left handed player would of scored that goal.

You wouldn't be talking about any of the moving parts of the Fabled "Nordic" line would you?
We collectively gushed about Paajarvi, Harski, Omark, and Lander as bad if not worse than these Flames fans talk about Gudreau, Poirrier, Granlund, etc... and for good reason too. Those guys performed or showed potential at every level until they depended on in the NHL. It was pretty much all bed sh!tting from then on in for those Jabronis. |
