i dont understand the constant push for the bridge from gm's nowadays.

if the dude is a total question mark, then yeah of course it makes sense.
otherwise, lock this future superstar up and save yourself a few bucks long term. even if it less than you hoped.
6.-6.5 is so much better than the 8+ he'll ask for in 2 years.
overpay for a year, maybe two. and then save money for the next 5 years.

as i said; they must know something we dont (obviously) and look at him as more of a question mark than i do.

i look at the oilers and see the gamble and the payoff of locking them up early.

taylor hall's contract is an absolute beauty already.
eberle's is abit of a question mark at present. but far from an egregious mistake and could still be great value.
nuge's contract starts this season and he'll need a big jump in output to earn those dollars....gamble

If he is no good and a one time wonder, then trade him , we would love to have him on our team.

problem with this is if he's making 6 mil a year like he wants and scores less than 20 goals, there's no chance anyone's taking that contract. He needs to sign a 1 or 2 year deal for 3.5-4 mil and then earn the next one. One good year doesn't mean you jump a step. do it for a couple and prove you're worth it and not a fluke.

here's what I have a serious issue with - ufa status has been moved up over the last couple cba's, with the theme always being, "when you become a UFA you'll cash in" so if that's the case, then the concession would be having to earn that huge pay day by proving yourself while you're a restricted free agent and not getting that huge contract unless you prove you earn it. One season is not earning it.

I side with the jackets on this one, he needs to prove himself and not try and hold the team hostage because he had one good year and is coming off his entry level deal. Earn your pay by repeating that season 1 or 2 more times and you'll cash in huge. I kinda hope he sits and rots for letting his agent carry on with this.

cbj has a pretty strong defence. or at least it aint the weakness of the team. id figure they'd be looking for forwards if they traded him.

what assets u got to give?

horvat and kassian? i suppose they wouldnt be dealing from a position of strength, but regardless, he wouldnt be cheap

The guy talked about himself the whole time. Look at me how honorable I am, I'm a saint, I do everything with affirmative actions.

If the guys stopped talking about himself for a minute he might be able to hammer out a deal for RJ.

Sounds like a the fathead I assumed he was.

What I'm asking myself if this is all Johanson's doing or his agent whispering in his earn that he can get more.

Gotta imagine one of Horvat/Virtanen would have to be apart of the package, plus a 2015 first and a third piece. Knowing CBJ's management, they'd be interested in Virtanen, Horvat, Kassian for sure(good players capable of playing hard-nosed hockey).

This is a pipedream though so I'm not getting my hopes up.

I think Overhardt is trying to take advantage of what he thinks is a weak GM.

It's hard for Jarmo to act tough now after handing out a few over payments to players who are not as good as RJ.

Hmm. Conditional 1st, if we miss the playoffs we keep it. If we make it you get the pick but we get back a 2nd rounder.

The Oilers will never trade Defenders out unless they know they won't re-sign with them. So that's Petry. But where would he play? We have Murray, Tyutin, Wiz, Johnson, Savard, Erixon and Prout. We don't need defensemen. You can keep yours. You need them more than we do.

I highly doubt petry resigns with us unless we make the playoffs

We won't make the playoffs unless we do a big trade

At this point petry is better the savard, erixon and prout. I won't pretend to know the blue jackets better than you, because I don't see them as much, but I envisioned:

Johnson, tyutin and Murray on your left and wiz, petry and savard on your right. That's an improvement IMO.

We also added Morris on a pto which isn't great but:

Nikitin Fayne - hard minutes
Marincin Morris
Ference Schultz

Believe me I'd rather keep petry if possible, but I'd give him up and take that d core knowing I have Johansen.
