That's a possibility. I'm thinking that this might be the case, or at least how the organization might view it. - EKolb13
It might be sooner - surely McNeill is physically ready and ready to skate up & down and use the wall.
That might be it.
Not asking for big point totals from him - just honest hard work. |

Do you think the guys where playing hard? Or maybe just enough to get to the real tryout at camp?
TT looked at Mc Neil coming on "THE PASS" and timing on the glass look.
Goal scored on a miss placed D man AKA Leddy many times before
If Leddy would engage the opponent`s stick and body he would be much better
But NOT OH well - Joe-snoopy-Cool
Oh he is rock solid muscle.

I will never forget the deer in headlights look Barker would make when the Hawks coughed it in transition and he had to decide what to do/ where to position himself and try and play NHL defense... - wiz1901
Apparently Cam Barker did not rejoin his team from last year, Amor. I can see why he didn't reup. That team is located Kazakhtan...that country is a hot spot when it comes to terrorism. |

Whaaaaaaaazup brothers....love the Wise signing. Not sure he'll ever be more than an AHL'er (IF THAT), but he is a physical player that has developed a decent scoring touch in the last few years. I'm super happy for him and will monitoring his progress closely.

First, "the pass."
There were two hawks going to the front and TT probably saw the late guy.
It worked.
My thoughts on TT are simple.
Until he, without thinking, knows where he has to be and what he has to do when he and his team doesn't possess the puck, there isn't the room or patience to let him play less and languish on the NHL roster when he can be playing in a leadership role with big minutes and special teams time in Rockford.
Yeah all the talent in the world doesn't replace Hard work developing.
Talk to the Sharks and how they resisted Logan Courure's quick ascension and let the kid play get stronger and more ready, playing 42 games in the AHL, and remember Couture wasn't from Europe, a product of the strong ohl Ottawa 67s program AND the fact that his draft year he had mono, he had mono but was still in a body building program albeit a modified one.
My point is, if the hawks were a bottom feeder team just stirring the different pots to start a successful recipe, they could be seduced into ignoring all the nuances of TT understanding 200 feet of North American style and saying, "Go out and get us some scoring opportunities, kid."
So if after 30 games in Rockford or 100 games in Rockford, patience and improvement (the Detroit template) will dictate when and if the head hands and skill become NHL mainstays. |

Thanks for responding. I think I should have added more to my question....
It seems in my very limited experience, some guys have a "knack" for the game more than others. Some of this, I'm not sure how much you can learn and how much you can't.
I'll use a few examples:
Ian Cole - guy can skate, hit, move the puck well enough but his reads were TERRIBLE when we first came up. He'd go for the big hit only to give up a bad odd man rush. He'd try to pinch as the other team was taking possession of the puck, moving forward to the puck without actual pressure allowing for an easy pass leading to an odd man rush. His reads of the play and situation were not good. Is this something you have or not or is it something you really can learn? Will he ever be aware enough not to be a 5/6 d-man? Will he ever be consistent enough?
Jaden Schwartz - This guy is one of the best forecheckers on the Blues by far. He hunts and hounds the puck and then he protects it well, making it look like its glued to his stick. He seems to read the play and know where to be/where to go.
Your Barker synopsis fits in my thinking here as well.
It almost seems like some guys get it and some don't on each extreme and the only thing coaching can do is improve it slightly, not enough to take the clueless to passable for example. Raw skills are great but if you are never in the right position to use them, they are worthless.
I wonder where/how much the analysis of this hockey iq falls in today's analysis of prospects, especially given the combine, etc.

Prospect watch from Sweden: Robin Press (7th round pick 211th overall in 2013 draft) has pretty strong start for his season so far. He plays in Allsvenskan for Södertälje which is second highest league in Sweden after SHL. After first three games in that league he has 2+2=4 and is Allsvenskans leading scorer at the moment.
I have told that he is pretty good skater and plays well with the puck. Decent size (6´3, 203) and does well in one on one battles against men. Competition is in good level in Allsvenskan and maybe Press could turn out to be a good late round found. Too early to tell but intresting player to keep eye on. BTW, Anze Kopitar played in Allsvenskan during the last NHL lockout. He played for Mora in 31 games and scored 10 goals and had 24 asstits=assists (sorry I had to). |

Right now Cam Barker has been plaing for a couple of years in the KHL for Barys(Astana)
His other ex Hawk teammate, Ben Eager is now playing in the KHL for CSKA , Moscow. He looks pretty beat up on the CSKA team picture. Good luck to both. I guess they were both slipping and sliding. - spanky
Barker actually only played part of one season - last year - in the KHL. 26 games for Barys Astana, and he did not impress. Couldn't keep up with the pace there.

Nor could he keep up with the pace the season before, which he spent time in Vancouver and with the Stars AHL affiliate. |

Hey Phil, hope summer treated you well.
A day away from camp, more changes on the horizon. What's not to like? Things are a little less crazy around here thanks to Eli's watchfulness (that's actually a good thing).
Glad to see you back, can't wait for the reports from camp and to see what Stanley is going to do (and when).

Anyone else see Davidson's presser about Johansen.... "He announced that the team had offered Johansen $6 million over two years and $32 million over six years (which JD correctly said is more than Jamie Benn makes) and $46 million over eight years. Which is astronomical money for a player that has one standout season to his credit."
Johansen is the real deal IMO but his agent needs to be fired if they turned down those offers. If he holds RJ out then they better see a long term deal or RJ better play lights out when he comes back. Negotiating like this could seriously damage interest for him elsewhere down the line. |

Always did like and respect JD and it just continues. I think I would have a hard time turning down $46 mill/8 at his age and relative unproven status. That's is a pretty big bird in the hand as they like to say...

Davidson seems to be a straight shooter. Overhardt (the agent) promptly went out and insulted JD's upbringing in an interview. Overhardt's bio says he started as a labor lawyer so I can see where his tactics come from. He represents a slew of Canucks. I wonder if he is trying to find RJ a path to VC????
Those offers were very generous off of one good year. Could be an agenda behind turning them down beyond just getting more $$.
Would love to see the next face to face meeting between Kurt and JD. JD might give Kurty boy a lesson on how a blocker can be used to damage a kidney or some other body part. |
