Jesus. He should fire his agent... Thats a solid contract for him.

This. I fear that this whole analytics thing is changing the conversation to stupid pointless numbers instead of what you see with your own eyes. Every night after a win or loss it's just going to be idiots in here rambling about numbers trying to establish themselves as "analytics gurus". It's already getting to that point.
- Arctic_AARDVARK

I understand people wanting to use them, for me they tell me nothing that I already know watching the game but I'm not saying dismiss the stats because yes, sometimes our eyes can deceive us but it is still the best barometer to judge a player.

Im surprised a team hasnt sent him an offersheet.

I don't think other teams want to risk big money on him either

Shots on goals aren't advanced statistics.

The less you control the puck, the less shots you take and the more shots you allow. And chances are, the more goals you allow.

The Leafs are bottom 5 in shots for, dead last in shots against.
They're also 26th in Goals Against.

I'm not sure what you and Leafman are trying to say, but this is pretty damn clear to me.

Come on, don't be like that. Don't take your ball and go home. Win this argument or concede defeat.

That contract sucks for him if he becomes a 70+ point player and the cap goes up. I can see why he wouldn't like that deal.

I wonder why NHL teams just dont fire these professionals and seasoned scouts because Adv stats can do their job for them
- jbold

That makes sense, because the two could never work together.

No such thing as winning an argument with stupid people. They just annoy you to the point where you just ignore them. Hoping they'd shut up and go away

Johansen and his agent are trying to get the hell out of Clb. Kind of similar to the Kane situation in Winnipeg.

This trend is beautiful. Blame the coach when it comes to the Leafs.

Blame other factors when it comes to other teams.

Hilarious.

Is it Marty's fault NJ couldnt score goals?

Here's another huge problem I have with advanced analytics: it's based upon absolute garbage numbers.

Do you know who was second in the NHL in hits last year?

Cody Franson.

Yeah, that's quality data.

Imagine if he was playing for the Islanders? He'd be first.. by 200 hits..

The guy who tracks that for the isles is biased as (frank).

no, that's because they lost Kovalchuk and Parise.

edit; but you should know that, since you watch the games and others don't

I agree, and I think there is benefits for using advanced stats. But if Kadri makes a nice toe-drag deke to score a goal I don't want to hear about how that goal was scored because of a bunch of numbers. It's kinda like people care less about the game and more about being a detective solving cases.. To each their own I guess.

Speed. Alot of the west teams actually have issues with speed. Its why the Leafs didn't do so bad against the big bad pacific teams....though San Jose plays a system that shutsdown the leafs perimeter play.

As for Montreal: An unorthodox attack, speed. P.K. Subban as a quarterback, is a very hard player to defend against.

Both instances the offense finds a way to capitalize on defensive breakdowns.

Also both teams had great goaltending.

They had a good system.

But no one to score goals.

There's this thing called "talent" that is also part of the equation.
