Same as Jordan Schroeder. - VANTEL
White was a reach, Schroeder was a faller who was projected to be like top 15(similar to Shinkaruk). Even more similar is that Schroeder's hoemtown team(Minny) passed on him similar to Shinkaruk(Calgary). The pick looked very promising at the time. |

This is why I keep saying it would not hurt us to be bad for two or three years. - VANTEL
You can draft excellent prospects and not be bad, just draft better and stop trading away picks. Besides, I said it before, we've got too many good players, that want to be here, to be a really bad team.
The Islanders have had seven top ten picks in the past ten years, including six top five picks and a first overall. It's not a guaranteed success method. |

No it didn't or 10 some teams wouldn't have passed on him. |

What did you think of Cedarholm? I told you he looked good last year. |

Do you not remember how everyone was basically screaming for Gillis to pick him? I know you've mentioned that you didn't like it, but I'd say 90% of Canucks fans were happy with the pick. He was considered BPA. |

I think it's more about how you develop those prospects once you have them. You can have a bunch of Top 5 picks and pi$$ them all away with poor development. |

That's not fair, I can't argue any points around that. |

Islanders owner put his wallet away and never once paid to the max of the cap with top end talent. He always struggled to reach the floor and surrounded good prospects with bums |

You're overstating it, I'm somebody and I sure as hell didn't want him to pick him, neither did the guys I know in and around the game. Poor selection and I turned out to be correct. |

That's a large part of it yes, only recently in the past three years have they actually started to develop guys like Strome and Brock Nelson. |

Last year I wanted Nichushkin and was ok with Shink. |

Virtanen is listed as 6'1 now. If he can still grow an inch or two still that would be a great size for a PF |

Appreciate it but I've always maintained you don't pick little guys with a first round pick. I know some, perhaps a lot were excited about getting him, but I wasn't.
A perfect example of why we've never won a Cup. Professional scouts and NHL personnel, from my experiences, which are limited, usually take a flyer on guys like that in the mid rounds, like the Flames did with Gaudreau or the Bruins did with Marchand. Regardless if he was ranked high by some. Just my opinion. |

He has only been 18 for a month, I'm expecting 2 to 3 inches more from him. |
