The fact that they're trying PEB as a 4C makes me think Laughton's destined for the AHL, to start, barring injury.
- jmatchett383

I wouldn't say destined but I think the Flyers mindset is that Laughton has to turn heads during camp or he will spend at least a year in the minors. Which I see as a high possibility.

I understand that. I'm just more interested to figure out why Rinaldo is a "lock".
- MBFlyerfan

Simple: it's because the organization likes him. Now, if you're trying to find out why that is, that's another story.

Well yes, if he comes in and scores a few goals and plays really well over a 200-foot game, he'll get a spot. But I guess I should have said he's a longshot to get a spot with the big club to open the season.

16 /5 = 3.2. I really don't think it's that hard to understand.

I like him too. I like his energy, I like how he forechecks. But for the life of me I cant understand how he could be a "lock" for anything.

Like I said, the decision makers in the organization like him. Why they like him is up for debate.

CBJ seem like they will take a hardline stance with Johansen. Good for them. And for us if he misses a month or two.

Maybe we can trade Hartnell for his rights.

Saw this at the bottom of the article.

Oliver Bjorkstrand scored two goals and TJ Tynan and Austin Madaisky each had three assists for the Blue Jackets in a 7-2 win over the St. Louis Blues at the prospects tournament.

I think his agent is giving Johansen bad advice.
He should take a two yr deal for $7M and get into camp.
When he gets to UFA he will get a huge deal for 7-8M per year.
It seems like a no brainier to me.

I'm just trying to figure out what accomplishments Giroux has in the NHL than Tavares doesn't, unless we want to chat about video game covers.
- jmatchett383

Giroux
Leading scorer in the league over a 4 year span.
Stanley Cup OT GWG
Hart Trophy Candidate
Career high 93 pts.
Playoff hat trick

Tavares
1st overall pick (means nothing)
Career high 81 pts.

I'd say Giroux is absolutely better than Tavares.

To me the Flyers went out and signed a bunch of AHL guys who could be called up for fourth line duty.

Rinaldo likely will start the season here, mainly because I think they want Laughton in the AHL this year.

But if Rinaldo plays badly it seems they have plenty if options to take his spot.

But I do think it is very likely Rinaldo starts the year skating on the 4th line.
Even if Laughton has a great camp.

very classy gesture by the flyers to honor forsberg. it's a shame neither he, nor lindros won a cup here, and a shame that both of their amazing careers were cut short due to injury.

and congrats to HOLMGER on the lester patrick award.

To play Devil's Advocate, it's likely the agent is projecting ever increasing salary cap going forward, seeing the numbers in the Toews/Kane contracts, and making noises about not Jarmo not wanting to alienate the team's best player in his RFA/bridge deal.

With that said, I agree with you. Take the Matt Duchene deal and then put Jarmo over a barrel when that deal is up.

I don't think I sign a two year old deal. 6-6.5 is a huge jump but in today's market I don't see 4-4.5 being out of hand.

For all the fun we have had with Homer over the past couple years with contracts, the guy has had an amazing career in hockey. He's overcome some personal adversity to reach some pretty fantastic heights. I'm happy for the guy...

So Giroux has accomplished being better, without winning any major individual or team awards while playing on a team with much better players. Gotcha.

I'm not arguing either way, but it's not like Giroux is light years ahead of Tavares at all. There's a reason why Tavares was the first player granted exceptional status.

He isnt light years ahead of Tavares. Tavares is getting better too. As of now though there is no real argument for Tavares.
