Not that I regret the Lindros trade but imagine 2 changes.....the Flyers don't fire Clarke and Clarke takes the kid he liked best according to the 90 draft preview.....Jaromir Jagr and the arbitrator rules in favor of the Rangers and the Flyers keep Forsberg, Hexy and Simon (plus the rest of course). think about they could have had Renberg, LeClair, Brindy, Forsberg and Jagr as the core forwards starting the 94-95 season.

What if they add Brind'amour to the deal with Quebec instead of Forsberg? Or add Recchi? Lindros and Forsberg up the middle would have been deadly. There's the Butterfly Effect to take into account to though.

Who's to say if they would have made the Rico/Johnny Vermont trade if they didn't have Lindros?

then instead of LeClair they have Recchi added to those players. personally I still think they make the move because they needed defense

True, but I don't think they brought a 29 year old over here to play in the AHL.
- Feanor

I think they are gonna exhaust all avenues to find players on the cheap that will help the club in any way they can.

Just because they signed him doesn't mean he is a lock. They have signed other more accomplished players to AHL only deals.. Darrel Powe... because they are stressing the idea of building a winning mentality.

The idea is that he can ideally make the same type of impact that Raffl made. Realistically, its not as easy and signing him and just plugging him in. We really have no clue how he will do.

According to Full Spectrum, Quebec had asked for Brind'Amour but were told quickly he was off-limits along with Recchi. Everyone else was available.
'
As much as Brind'Amour meant to the Flyers -- and keeping in mind that Foppa didn't come over until 1994, meaning it would have been ONLY Lindros the first two years of his NHL career -- in hindsight the Flyers should have traded Brind'Amour and Slava Butsayev (then considered a firecracker prospect in his own right) in the package and omitted Ricci and Forsberg.

Flyers 5 years from now:

FREE AGENT - Giroux - Voracek
Simmonds - Couturier - Aube-Kubel
DRAFT PICK - Laughton - Read
Bellemare - Cousins - Raffl

ACQUISITION - Coburn
Gostisbehere - Morin
Hagg - Sanheim

Mason
Stolarz

I call no BOB RYAB

EDIT: Added Sanheim

- NickTheKid87

Be nice if schenn fills that top line role esp if voracek takes his game to elite level. And I think one of cousins, Leier, or even lindbolm could be a 3rd liner in the future.

Looking at the 5 year plan I think w should be looking into a forward and goalie in next year draft.

In an ideal universe the Flyers would have had Lindros, Forsberg AND Jagr in their prime.

Nice article Bill. I can still remember how excited I was in the summer of 05 when it was announced that Forsberg had signed with Philly. I really felt he had finally come home. I think it's fantastic that the Flyers are honouring him.

On a side note, I remember a game in '05 vs Pitt at home where Niity was so mesmerized by a replay of Forsberg dangling on the scoreboard that he wasn't paying attention on a neutral zone puck drop and I think it was Talbot who scored... LOL What a special player.

In five years, BSchenn will be 28, Couturier 26, Giroux 31, Voracek 30, Simmonds 31, Laughton 25, Aube-Kubel 23, Read 33, Raffl 30, etc. No doubt that they'll need some forward prospects in the next 5 years. I'm sure they'll get some too.

There are only 5 players on the roster today that were on in 5 years ago: Coburn, Giroux, Timonen, Pronger and Emery (who left and came back).

Yeah, that would have been awesome. Imagine this lineup in 94-95
Leclair-Lindros-Renberg
Fedyk-Forsberg-Dineen
Podein-Ricci-Klatt
DiMaio-MacTavish-Druce

Yeah, that works!

Burns.

A little late - should've inducted him while he was still alive - but still.

If they can move Prongers contract next offseason, that # will be down to 2:
Giroux
Coburn
