emery's new hat, with a design that will match his new Brian's G-Netik 2 gear:

I'd love to see Emery go back to his original boxing mask, from his first stint with the Flyers. I'm still a little bothered that Emery disappeared right after his injury in 2010. Not that there are fingers to be pointed around with the serious of the injury, I just always thought it was strange that you didn't hear anything at all from the poor guy but at the same time there was a lot of focus and success heading into a long playoff push that season.

first game. 3-0 win. ghost town.
- hammarby31

Sadly I had to work but a 3-0 victory where the prospects on the Flyers side of the puck is defense, I'm not sure why I'm surprised with the outcome.

Detroit re-signed Danny DeKeyser, 2 years, $4.375mm total ($2.18mm hit)

Great deal for DET. He had a solid season.

Agreed. From what I saw Sanheim and Gostisbehere looked exceptionally good, and Hagg seemed to be very sharp and smart. Pettersson similarly impressed as a very solid, smart looking player.

Morin showed his nasty, but I too was hoping to see more "hockey" from him. For all the glowing reports from rookie camp, I think he might have let his inner beast loose today to the detriment of his overall game.

One hockey piece of Morin that is easy to overlook is how often he breaks up plays in the neutral zone or forces dumps.

Agreed. I just cant get over how fluid he looks for a guy his size as well. And even if he didn't show up on the score-sheet he did a real nice job carrying the puck today too.

Alderson? Laughton? Commentary??

It was relatively a quiet game for the both of them I thought. Laughton did some nice battling along the boards as did Alderson. To be honest the forward lines didn't seem to have much chemistry, but what do you expect, these guys haven't been together too long. The play was pretty chippy down low. Still showed more chemistry than the Caps though if there's a positive to take from it.

Alderson played a solid fundamental game today, as did Laughton. Neither one is a flashy player anyway. Nice setup by Laughton on Aube-Kubel's goal.

The Skate Zone just outdrew the upcoming Devils season of home games.

yeah. move them to seattle or vegas or portland or kansas city or quebec or markham or....literally zero need for them to be where they are.

Morin said 5 guys asked to fight him pregame skate. I know there’s too many comparisons to Pronger, but man they have similar personalities.

Still a worthy project -- I just hope they take their sweet time w/ him.

i like the more classic/team oriented approach of his current mask rather than personal, non-hockey related imagery.

it's also pretty typical for a player, especially one suffering from an indefinite one, to quietly disappear and really not be around the team, even when they're rehabbing. i expected nothing different from emery. it's a shame. that team maybe could have won it all if he were healthy. i'm just glad to see him battle back and i like that he returned here. it sickens me, of course, that he won a cup in chicago, even as a backup - not for him personally - but just another example of a player winning elsewhere.

Doesn't entirely surprise me. Caps seemed to have more than a few guys looking to start poop. I guess they're desperate to get noticed.

True, I'm not saying he played poorly, just that he seemed more interested to put guys through the wall at times.

Definitely liveable, for a young kid with promise coming off a solid season.

Virtually zero chance of the AHL. Slim chance he's not in the opening night lineup on the fourth line.

I think Laughton's passing and his slap shot are 2 things he can use well given the chances to contribute on offense.

Possibility of Rinaldo getting waived coming out of training camp, but don't let it get you too excited if it happens.

He's going to magically become a disciplined, defensive and PK machine...like Dave Reid with Selanne speed and Kronwall hitting ability.

Or he'll just continue to be the undisciplined, unskilled mess the Flyers seem to think they need in the line up because he hits.

If you go out and buy his jersey, you know he'll be traded and playing with Lasse kukkonen in a couple years

I like some things about him, don't like some things about him as a player. But I'm going to keep an open mind, give him a chance and see what happens.
