I don't mind picking them in round 3 and on, but even the second round where are the Neuvirth's, Enroth's, Markstrom's, Allen's etc...
It's still damn risky - Lahey

that seems to be the only possible thing that made him go from solid to crap in a few short months. - ChetManly
I remember hearing something about a new born or some (frank)ing thing and how it was a lot harder than expected. Depending on his wife/gf it could be a (frank)ing nightmare if she's one of those women that can't handle a kid by herself for a few days here and there. |

I can't remember, he was playing when I took some time away from hockey and the NHL. I thought it was mainly injuries that derailed the guy. Is that correct? - ChetManly

Where was that guy actually ranked that year? I know Milbury was just being Milbury and wanted to make the news, but how far off was he?
Imagine, Heatley to NYI and the ripple down effect that would've had. |

I remember seeing a painting of his newborn on the back of his mask last year at the start of the season. I was wondering if that is what threw him off his game.
His kid is on the back of his Coyotes helmet for this season. |

I found a couple sites. One was a redraft and DiPietro was selected at 4, a mock draft before the 2000 entry draft had DiPietro at 2. |

It was a year of confusion. Gaborik was the top ranked guy. Heater 2. Klesla and Diipad were 3/4 interchangeable. Not to mention Yakubov and the Busts Three. |

Have the Oilers been in the top 5 of this list at all in the past 5 years? If not that's a pretty serious indication of where to start making changes.
The Ducks and Tampa look like they are getting pretty scary but I wonder how long (if ever) it will take to translate into playoff success.
Columbus looks like a team on the rise, especially if Bob can keep it up. They need to get rid of Johansen though, he's an anchor. - RonPielep
you mean like set up a farm team and development system? Maybe fire the head of scouting and set up an overseas scouting system? that kind of stuff? ignorance is bliss |

I love the type of player Khaira is. I hope he makes it as a bottom 6er
I hope we sign Tkachev too. Loved the chemistry he has had with Yakimov, albeit its a rookie tournament.
Guys I'm excited about will basically be your top 5:
Yakimov
Chase
Klefbom
Nurse
Draisaitl
Mostly Yakimov, Nurse, and Draisaitl though, that's some size with skill coming through the pipeline. Hope it all pans out. |

I just want to sign Tkachev to see how he develops. I don't know that he'll ever make the NHL, but I hate to pass on him find out he goes to VAN and gains 30lbs in 2 years. |

The idea that Khaira, Yakimov and Chase could become NHL contributors gives me wood.
For one, it means that our scouting has finally gotten on track.
For another, it means that we can bring these guys up on ELCs in the next 3-4 years and never have to face a cap crunch. |

Almost any goalie that is a legitimate prospect has that chance, and very few ever have the "potential" to be a backup, otherwise they would never be selected. That's the issue. It's easy to see the potential franchise guys, but the difference between a potential starter and a "split starter" basically a step above a backup is almost impossible to tell. - AdamFrench
Don't want to get pedantic about the term used... but to just put goalie is kinda funny, as he already is a goalie. If you decided to make him a forward, that would be a different story.
But whatever...

I remember the day Khaira was drafted he was a bust because he played in the BCHL.
Yakimov was a bust because he was slow and a Russian and might never come to NA.
Chase was a bust because he was a 7th round goon.
Good times. |

haha yeah. I don't know poop about prospects, but it seems like everyone becomes an expert on draft day.
Interesting fact: Since 2005 the Oilers have drafted as many players out of the BCHL as they have the QMJHL (6 each) and with a higher average selection (107th- BCHL, 119th QMJHL).
They obviously listen to whoever they've got over there. |

Playboy has sweet tweet (frank) all for celebs doing playboy the past few years. Now if he releases some images of all these celebs they'll have no choice and will have to just poise for the dirty old man. Might as well make a buck while they can. |

Now I don't follow the Oilers management and systems all that much but didn't the Oilers already have a farm team and development system in the Springfield Falcons before that? And hasn't Stu MacGregor been the director of amateur scouting since 2007 while Morey Gare has been the director of pro scouting since 2008? Please correct me if I'm wrong.
But otherwise, no, I'm not exactly talking about that kind of stuff. I was referring to making changes from their drafting/development philosophies.
I'm really not a big fan of the Oilers seemingly favoring Oil Kings players. Just like I'm not a big fan of the Habs seemingly favoring French players. Whether or not they are homers is not exactly a quality I would weight very highly in a scouting process.
Even worse is the fact that 2011 2nd round (#31 overall) bust David Musil has his Dad on the Oilers amateur scouting staff. That just screams CoI which is a disease any quality scouting organization needs to rid itself of. |
