It really surprises me that all you guys seem to value Yak way more than Eberle. I know he's a first overall draft pick but from watching the two play over the years I'd take Eberle everytime. Granted you guys do watch them play alot more than I do, maybe you're seeing something I'm not?

I think there's a couple things to note (if you're referring to what you've read on this specific thread)

- Yakupov's return is much much lower than Eberle's, so there is no point in trading Yak at this point

- Yakupov has qualities that Eberle doesnt have such as feistiness, tenacity on the forecheck, etc. When Eberle isn't playing with Hall, he is a lot less impactful. The chemistry he has with Hall/Nuge really benefits his game. Yakupov has yet to find that. I hope Draisaitl is the guy in a couple years.

- Also Eberle won't get benched if he turns the puck over, which he does do, so he is not terrorized in the media like Yak or thrown under the bus which changes perception to other fan bases.

But as you eluded to, Eberle is a safer pick at this point.

I value Eberle more, but he's worth more on the trade market and I do think someday soon Yak will be better. So I don't exactly want to trade Yak while he's value is low.

Fair enough. I also may still be a little nostalgic over those two world junior performances

If what Iggysbf says is true about the nuge coming into camp at 200lbs that should be a pretty dangerous line this year.

Yeah it would be stupid to trade him now especially for what some of the posters on here have offered for him. Hopefully he'll turn it around this year to at least you guys a return worthy of a 1st overall pick

The guy has shown glimpses of being more explosive than Hall. Now that would be a tough shoe to fill, but if Yak can get more consistent and confident he'd have big time value to this club and around the league.

Yep. Eberle tends to dust the puck off too much sometimes. He has a sick release too though.

I agree that beaking about prospects games is lame

but the "flames have no prospects" joke has expired, way to keep current.

10. Obviously, Boston remains in this category as well, with a need to free cap room. Much of the speculation surrounds Matt Bartkowski and Johnny Boychuk. Two months ago, as talks between the Bruins and Oilers fell apart, it sure seemed like the plan was to try and keep Boychuk for one more run. But there’s more smoke than a Cheech and Chong movie, so you wonder if that’s changed.

Yeah Johnny Gaudreau is filthy and Sam Bennett reminds me of Jonathon Toews the way he skates. Might never be as good defensively but if he ends up with a similar offensive upside that's a win.

your team is pretty much all recently graduated prospects.

So sure. you have less. but thats because your team is in that stage of the cycle where the bigger names are stepping up....this year, calgary does have more (better or not remains to be seen).

dude, you're period kicked in hard this morning didn't it.

Do you think he just needs a change in scenery? I thought eberle was considered a player that always worked hard.

No. It's his style. Slick, complimentary scorer type.

If the scoring can spread out more and we have contributions from different pieces of the team; he'll be vital to us taking the next step

Chris Kelly still sucks and is not a guy the Oilers need at all.
- Iggysbff

You're relentless

But still wrong

I'd mention a bunch of star centres that would certainly help us more, but they're not available. And u probably wouldn't want them either cause you don't like the shoes they wear or something

Anisimov should be a prime target

Yakupov and Arco had decent possession numbers together, just over 50%

If we could swing like Perron for Anisimov (maybe they add a pick like a 2nd?)

Hall Nuge Eberle

Yak Anisimov Arco

Pouliot Kelly Purcell

Kelly is not completely useless offensively either. 8-10 goals and 25 points is plausible between purcell and Pouliot. Could also swap Purcell and Arco there and still have some size spread out.
