For me, as of today, it would be
1) Ghost-his skills just leap out, not sure how he will end up doing in his own end, but at absolute worst case, he'll be a 3rd pair guy who can QB the top pp unit.

2) Morin- You can't coach size and I love the mean streak. Add to that a good, hard shot and decent wheels, and you have #1 dman potential

3) Sanheim- Can't wait to see this guy once he fills out. Could be our next Eric Desjardins.

4) Hagg- Nice total package of size and skills, but not sure if he has the inner drive to ever be more than an average 2nd pair guy

5) Alt-Probably the most NHL ready of all of our D prospects. IMO, he will definitely be an NHL player, the question is can he be a top 4 guy?

6) Friedman-Until he puts on some weight and shows that he can compete at the pro level, its hard to put him ahead of any of the other D prospects.

Right now, if you absolutely needed to, you could put both Morin and Ghost in the lineup, and they really wouldn't be worse than some of the sludge we has in the 2012-2013 season. Ghost would get burned for sure, and Morin would have some trouble with his footwork, but they're probably bottom-pair NHL players right now.

As for Ghost, Bill's absolutely right that he really stands out. And he REALLY likes having the puck. He's hungry for it. It's fun to watch. He's going to make some big mistakes as he's learning the pro game, but man oh man it will be fun watching him as he makes them.

Fine then Morin is Weber

Morin (Weber) - Sanheim (Suter)
Ghost (Orr) - Hagg (Lidstrom)
Alt (Bartulis) - Amorosa(Parent)

Alt could probably survive on a 3rd pair right now as well.

He probably could. He's probably got the best chance to unseat a vet at camp.

Can someone explain to me how Hagg's contracts can "slide" if he plays in the AHL but a guy like Ghost can't have his slide? I assume it's some European rule, I just don't understand it.

I think he can only slide if they send him to NA junior.

Nvm, it's completely age-based. 18-19.

That can't be it. Lindholm's contract slid when he played in the AHL in 12-13.

I think the player has to be under 20 years old.

I decided to do my own dirty work. Per Section 9.1(d) of the CBA:

" In the event that an 18 year old or 19 year old Player signs an SPC with a
Club but does not play at least ten (10) NHL Games in the first season
under that SPC, the term of his SPC and his number of years in the Entry
Level System shall be extended for a period of one (1) year, except that
this automatic extension will not apply to a Player who is 19 according to
Section 9.2 by virtue of turning 20 between September 16 and December
31 in the year in which he first signs an SPC. Unless a Player and Club
expressly agree to the contrary, in the event a Player's SPC is extended an
additional year in accordance with this subsection, all terms of the SPC,
with the exception of Signing Bonuses, but including Paragraph 1 Salary,
games played bonuses and Exhibit 5 bonuses, shall be extended; provided,
however, that the Player's Paragraph 1 Salary shall be extended in all
circumstances. "

Basically, any player does not turn 20 between 9/16 and 12/31 in the year which he signs his SPC (ELC, same thing?) and does not play 10 NHL games can slide (Hagg turns 20 in February). This rule usually applies to juniors since they are ineligible to play in the AHL until they are 20, so this clause can only apply to 18/19 year old players who do not play in the CHL (NCAA, Europe, non-NHL-affiliated pro leagues).

If there are a lot of injuries I could see them calling up Hagg, but only for 9 or fewer games. Alt or Ghost they could call up as often as they liked without burning a contract year. If Hagg was fantastic in the NHL as a call up they might keep him up, but I don't see that happening as a 19 year old.

I think Morin will spend the whole year in Junior, until hopefully becoming part of the Phantoms Calder Cup winning team.
