Could be wrong, but I think its a lock you see Rinaldo opening night.

I'm hoping he's the 13th forward. At best

I wouldn't hold my breath on that but who knows.

Even if injuries arise, I'd be leaving Laughton is the #1 center down in the AHL, and leading that team every night.

Jean Claude Van Damme was re-signed by the club wasn't he? Berube had some love affair with him.

I definitely don't think it'd hurt to have a full AHL season, but on a 4th line with competent players, playing 10+ minutes a night! Laughton will get a wealth of benefit.

He can handle the defensive part of the job fine, even take some time on the PK away from Giroux who can be used more on PP & 5 on 5

VandeVelde was re-signed.

I think if Laughton's getting decent minutes in the NHL, it'd be better than the AHL for him. If he's stuck playing 7 minutes a night with Rinaldo, sure AHL all the way

Really hope we see none of him this year, just a warm body who doesn't really excel anywhere.

I guess it does depend on what they try do to with LeCavalier as well, playing him more might make some idiot team want him at the deadline if he performs.

Last year was very lucky on the injury front, have to figure Laughton will get a chance at some point up here. Just give him consistent line-mates and consistent ice time.

The 3 I'm most excited to see are Belle, MDZ and Raffl.

Raffl has got to develop a niche to his game imo. If that finishing touch doesn't come, he needs to become a solid PK guy which I believe he can do. Like him, so hope it works out.

No more warm bodies.

He's a bubble player, who got a shot because of injuries. He's not here to be more than a spare body or Phantom

As for Lecavalier, he's not likely to start the season on the 4th line. He's going to get a shot to prove last season was a fluke, and Berube says he's going to be at center

I'm in the minority on this, from reading the posts, but I honestly believe one full season under Terry Murray in the AHL would be an amazing thing for Scott Laughton, considering the improved talent level of the Phantoms.

I understand what everyone is saying about how Laughton could help the big club, and I don't necessarily disagree that he wouldn't. But I just truly believe that one season in the AHL -- hell, even a half-season -- would really help him ultimately be a better professional hockey player.

I look at the Kings, and how they brought along Tyler Toffoli and Tanner Pearson...that's how I'd do it. It's not a crime or punishment to be in the AHL and learn how to produce in roles of responsibility.

- AllInForFlyers

In my view, having a set plan of how to bring a player along is the worst approach you can have. Because it removes the actual play of the player from the equation. If Laughton plays well and earns a spot on the team, why shouldn't he stay? Because that's how Tyler Toffoli's player development path went?
The only thing that can or should trump a player's actual play, is roster issues such as waivers or cap issues.
