Today I learned if you contract tetanus, and it goes untreated, your muscles will keep contracting and bend you backwards into a C formation until you literally break your spine. Yes, patience is easy to talk about. Personally, I don't think they can afford to just wait and hope that one of the prospects pans out. That 3 years or whatever, maybe shorter, is just for one of them to make the team. Then how long before one or more can truly become a top pairing player they can build around? Longer, much longer?
