Congrats!

As for Powe I would love to hear about his time in Minny. He left here with such potential to be the next Trent Klatt

Powe is on an AHL deal, so he'd have to be signed to a NHL deal to be an option, but if he impresses or injury opens a slot, maybe he'd be the guy to fill it.

A new contract would likely be a mere formality

Devils invite Fedetenko and Jordin Tootoo.

I can already see the latter running Mason.

Per the beats on twitter, Ed Snider had a bit of a rant today. Said he's on board with Hextall's plan to build thru draft, complained about being snake bit in the Final over the years- injuries and what not- and commended Holmgren for biting bullet & admitting mistake on Bryz. Also said that Bobrovsky said he was not re-signing with Flyers after Bryz contract, which confirmed a suspicion I had.

Feels they have a good team, and said if Mason can be as good as they think he can, watch out.

They do have a good team, and if Mason does a .915 again, the league should watch out -- yes, the defense has limitations, but I swear, if the lights click on for both Schenn AND Couturier...man.

This team is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO effing close to being one that this league isn't going to want to deal with. They just need to be rewarded with their patience on Schenn, and for Couturier to do what we think he can do with two honest-to-God NHL wingers on his line.

I think they already are, they just need to continue building on what they did last season. We were like top 5 or so in the league in points after November or December, if I remember right. We just need to do that for the whole season.

schenn and coots are really the key. they need them to take another step and i think both are capable. laughton, akeson, and bellemare could all be good surprises..

it's simple. be better at 5 on 5. do that by playing better team D. stay out out of the box. be disciplined. those 2 areas could easily turn them from a 94 pt team into a 100+ point team, and create good habits for a long playoff run. mason does he job behind them, and they could be dangerous. of course, it would be nice if they had kimmo and pronger and....but they don't. D by committee can work.

Their biggest hurdles are building a solid first D pairing and getting the forwards to commit to team D. Same as they have been for a while now.

The stalemate continues between what we value our prospects as and the D men available for trade. Unless the front office is content to wait things out while our D men develop we're looking at a subpar first pairing.

While that plays itself out I'm looking for big improvements from our forwards this year. With the exception of Coots and Read I want to see every other forward fully invest themselves to improving their defensive play. Coots and Read have done that already and I want to see what the two can do with the green light to play some offense. Read put up 24 goals in his rookie year while Coots put up 41 pre-mono in Drummondville. With the green light those two might just be the answer to improving our secondary scoring.

If it doesn't, I just hope they don't trade youth for temporary D help. If they trade for youth on the back end fine but I don't want to see a deal for a Yandle, Buff, Burns or Phanuef-esk player at the price of a young forward. Suck it up and miss the POs this year if they need to. I obviously hope it doesn't come to that.

D by committee can work, see Flyers, Philadelphia 73-75. However it helps to have 2 stud centers, depth on the wings, a brilliant coach and the best goalie in the league!

Make no mistake about it though, if Mase plays well and both Couturier and B Schenn take a big step in their development, and they can stay relatively healthy, this can be a 100+ point club.

I disagree. Take a look at the rosters of the teams that have won the cup over the last 15 years. All have had a clearly defined number 1 D man on the back end.

You really cant look to teams that old to model your around. The game has changed so many times over.

Adrian Kempe was the lone bright spot for Modo today in their 6-2 loss to SAIK. Kempe had a goal and an assist. Red Wings seventh round puck Axel Holmstrom (someone I wanted to see Flyers take a late-round chance on this June) had two goals and an assist for SAIK.

Getting back to Lindblom, his goal today was a nice one. He got a little more ice time than in the opening game against Frolunda.

It would have been nice to see the Flyers roll dice on Holmstrom. I still really like the draft class, added a lot of skill and skating ability
