You've got a ton of talent there. There's also a bit more pressure on your kids because they all know there's a chance they can make the squad.

For the Canes there's only room for a couple guys, so it's probably easier for them all to play as a team early and be loose. Don't have to go all out to impress because they aren't really competing against each other for actual roster spots.

Honestly, this tournament means so little to me in comparison to most fans. They could go un defeated or winless and it really wouldn't change my opinion all that much but I'd still like them to put in a better team effort than this.

They can earn their job in the pre season games, i seriously doubt anyone is going to win an nhl spot because they did well in a few prospect games.

Stepan basically won his spot on the rangers at this tournament 4 years ago. His hat trick against you guys in his first regular season nhl game sealed it

This was how Brandon Sutter got his first NHL job as well. He dominated during the tourney while not completely sucking during main camp.

Traverse city is a nice place to showcase your skill but very rarely does anyone win a full time position at the NHL level off this tournament.

Yea it just gives the coaches an extra 3 or 4 games of watching the prospects to see who really has a chance of making the squad at training camp. Lindberg had a great tourney last year but didnt make the team due to a vanilla training camp. But due to his performance in travese city he got a longer look than other prospects and was put in better situations to succeed.

It's why so many veterans were brought in though, there are a few guys who know they have a legit shot but for 90% of them it will take an un believable tournament and pre season to even get a look.

It's tough to ever know with prospects until you watch them consistently. There are guys who put up ppg numbers in the ahl who end up being career minor leaguers because their game just doesnt translate to the nhl and then there might be a guy who doesnt put up attractive stats but plays an nhl game in terms of defense who ends up being an impact role player.

It's a stepping stone for many prospects who don't have the same kinda hype that a guy like Reinhart or Ristolainen has. Gives them a chance to remind management and fans that they're still relevant and have something to offer at the NHL level.

Also gotta remember that we drafted a lot of non-Canadians the past few years, and most of them are not participating. Fasching and Compher would probably really help that pk unit. Missing Possler, Ullmark, Olofsson, Johansson, all the NCAA guys, as well as Baptiste. That's some solid goaltending, scoring and defensive prowess missing. Also, Grigorenko should be there...

It would be nice if an older 2014 draft eligible top prospect and 2nd overall pick who is very cerebral could start to produce against other prospects.
