Honestly, I find the whole captaincy thing ridiculously overblown. Or, too much is made of it. Those guys are highly paid professionals. They've been playing hockey for as long as they remember. They know what they have to do and they don't need a captain to "lead the way". I'm sure there are plenty of guys speaking loudly in the dressing room when things don't go too well. They don't wait for the guy "wearing the C" to say something.

I played sports through university and professional for a bit. You are correct that it seems overblown in terms of who speaks up in the room etc. Where it becomes important is on the field, or ice for this instance. Refs will speak more at length about in game issues with a captain or assistant than just a random player. For professionals, this is the voice from the room to the press as well. Every player gets interviewed here and there, but the captain speaks for the team, takes responsibility for the team toward the press. So it matters in that sense at least.

I really have no clue who is going to be captain. It's really a coin flip. But where does mise o jeu come with these odds? I dont see how patches is favorite to become captain. Looks to be a good bet on Plekanec.

it's tradition. the A's don't really matter but i like the captain thing. but it is more ceremonial than anything. officials will talk to any respected veteran. not just ones w/ letters

I think I like the idea of a transition captain ... Markov gets the C for the next 2 years and then they can make a long term decision.

Agreed : Markov will play is entire career here, he a great talent, lead by example and has the respect of the guys..

The constant no show of Patch in the playoff make him a bad choice for a letter in my mind... Thats why I would consider the 2nd "A" to Gallagher ...Over plek ( the first one goes to PK)
