Ogi aside, people female dog and complain and swear off the game - and they come back and hold their noses and after a few years, they don't even have to hold their noses anymore.

A Stanley Cup decided by a shootout would have all the credibility of a WWE championship.

Than the new fans can have it but I prefer a little tradition with my hockey.MLB broke their tradition by including the wild card.No big deal but what if they went with a DH in the NL as well?I would hope a fan uproar.Yes ypu can tweek a game to increase fan support but boundaries are needed. For hockey this to me is the biggest.OT hockey in the playoffs is the most exciting thing in sports and if that is franked with the new fans can have it.

I would hate it too - but things change all the time - used to be you couldn't pass the puck out of any zone, used to be couldn't pass it over two lines, used to be goalies couldn't go down on the ice to block shots, used to be championship play-off series were decided by total goals scored over two games....I'm guessing purists were outraged by each of these changes.

When the AL adopted the DH in 1973, fans were outraged; they adjusted quickly enough.

Wasn't a baseball fan in 73 so to me the DH is tradition thus making your point.Changing how a game ends due to viewer trends and sponsers time slots is not my idea of hockey.

I should add: I'm still outraged by the DH.

AND by the all-star game determining home-field advantage in the World Series.

AND by the Series being played in the freezing cold of November.

BUT - I still watch.

No matter how much the game gas changed over the years, it's always required actually playing the game in order to decide a Champion. Shootouts are not hockey.

Doesn't likely matter anyways. No other pro league would ever resort to a field goal contest/free throw contest/Home Run Derby to decide their Championships, I doubt the NHL will go this route.

I would hope so too.

But: soccer has the shoot-out to decide championships - and I know you still watch that.

Hockey is the only sport left that I'm truly emotionally invested in...if they (frank) it up, I'm going off the grid to live a quiet life as a dairy goat farmer.

Fixed?

Anyways I said pro sports leagues. Soccer does not fit that criteria IMO.

Yeah - I like to see how many millimeters the grass grew between shots on goal.

The only reason it was direct head contact is because Backes stumbled at the last moment and had his head down. The intent appeared to be a huge shoulder hit. Not that it matters much, because regardless of intent, the onus is on the hitter to make sure his hits are legal. He deserved the suspension, but I don't think you'll see Seabs make that mistake again any time soon...it's not the way he plays.

I'm fully confident that Backes will continue his douchebag ways this year.

Very true. After the last baseball lockout, I left the game sans three things - 1) games I have to go to due to work/charity/organizations; 2) special favors for loved ones who I know love the game and 3) NLCS and World Series games.

I know I couldn't fully be done because I would put the enjoyment of certain others ahead of my wanting to be done. Simple example, would definitely take my dad to a WCF or SCF no matter what my stance was on the game. I probably should have said I would stop buying merchandise, would dump my season tickets, dump NHL center ice, etc.

Big deal that the league takes the spin-o-rama away from shoot-outs, I still think that most shoot-out attempts are outside the rule the shootout - the puck needs to be always moving toward the goalline. It still stinks.

FWIW to those local to chiacgo... Rosati's changed their marinara sauce at some point over the last number of months. The good spicy Chicago style marinara is gone and has been replaced by a terrible tomato paste style sauce.

No more need to get Panzaratti's while in town anymore.

Didn't Stalberg once do that on a penalty shot?
