Niedereitter signed in Minny. 3 years 2.66m per.

What a steal he turned out to be. Fletcher pulling him in and drafting Haula in the 7th.... Nice!

If you recall Niño forced a trade because he felt he should have been in the nhl right away and not have to play defense.
It is funny how a guy like this gets labeled and team GMs become less interested.
Yes the Wild wins this on.

Nino for a 3rd was a very good trade, I'm surprised New York gave up on hime so soon. Wait a minute, this is Garth Snow we're talking about, I'm not surprised at all.
- DarthKane

True. But remember, Garth has them so loaded now they have no need for a Leddy or Sharp.

Yet, he was playing a checking role from the start in Minny. I think his issue was more about being stuck in the AHL while the Isles roster looked like doo doo and he knew he was better than a number of players there. Another terrible move by Garth. Just wish the Hawks would have stepped in on Nino....

Didn't Haula drop his draft year for some reason? Remember someone saying the Hawks should grab him that year much earlier than the 7th.

Nino is a perfect example of a change of scenery making the difference. One of the reasons I have not completely written off Rundblad. Need to see him starting with everyone else and not straight out of Phoenix's press box. Hopefully he is working his ass off this off season since this may be his last opportunity.

I don't think the year and half he came over from Finland and played at Shattuck-St. Mary's and Omaha to warrant much consideration-he really didn't have the jump he has now and was so raw. To me, it was cool seeing the new improved more developed version who is gonna be a fly in the hawk's ointment...

McNeill is in a heavier class and really tougher than the pro adjustment period has shown. He is very smart on the ice too. He is bigger man who needs the boots to improve but sure he too slides all around lineup eventually but I think there another guy there who gets first call up to play the man...

Do you recall why Hartman dropped to 30th?
- DarthKane

Wasn't it because there was a run on Dmen? Also, IIRC that was a really deep draft, so chances were that a good player was going to drop.

Then again, to think that a guy that has barely sniffed the NHL is going to make an impact on the Hawks PP is really digging deep into someone's stash of some really potent leaves or flowers or what-have-you.

Does anyone really think Q is going to trust the point on the PP to Rundblad? I'm set for another season of shinpads and off-target whiffs by #2, another season of blasts into the goalie's chest by #10 or odd-man breaks created by an inability to keep the puck in at the point. And also set for another season of minimal time for PP unit 2 (presuming #8 is still around) with Leddy and Seabrook getting the call.

And of course, another season of the statue play call for 5 on 3's, reminding me of the 3 Stooges short "Rhythm and Weep" where Curly nailed his shoes to the roof preventing him from jumping off the building.

One can only hope Dineen runs the PP, is a 3 Stooges fan and has seen this short and seeks to prevent its ongoing 5-3 repeat.

Interesting, 2-3 Norris winners in the top 10.

And 3 Hawks, which to me suggests "system."

Also that there's a bias in that some of the guys in the top 10 are clearly "helped" by having a great partner (like Muzzin for example). But Hjalmarsson doesn't.

Not to be a voice of doom and gloom, but don't be too quick to believe that a dramatically rising cap will solve the Hawks problems:

The Canadian dollar is at about US$.90 right now - down from about US$.93 earlier in the summer.

Rob? Is that you?

It's also down from about $1.20 about a year ago.

I think Rasmussen was brought in to get a shot.

And to answer the why Hartman dropped question :

Remember most first rounds whether the drafts are weak or strong you will see around the middle of that first a drop in tier so that particular draft had a thick middle tier that I at the time argued extended far into late second. Granted every team still ranks in these close grouped prospects teams usually take their best player available according to their let but their let MIGHT take in consideration if they have "muckers", are short on scorers or skilled quick handed set up men, or feel they need big wings. Sometimes just a few divergent selections has a kid drop into another teams laps. But remember no one thought Hartman was Al Secord, TT, or even Logan Couture.
Like the Haula discussion a lot had to do with how the player works learns and actual commits AND actually develops from under 18 to his twenties. The presnt hawk roster is full of examples of early twenties guys still improving where we all can attempt to set high water marks but they can improve and surprise us.

The biggest what if.... Will Q roll 4 lines or will it be blend-o-matic 3 line style?? I'm really hoping he finds a 4th line and just rolls it to give the other lines a breather.

I agree. Tmrws game has whoop ass written all over it. I was hoping to keep them under 40. It don't look good. They gave up 190+ rushing yards to the bills. Gore and co are gonna tear em up. I hope not but signs point to a lot of

I would guess that Q wants that too - and he has lots possibilities for the bottom 6/7 forwards: Kruger, Regin, Shaw, Bickell, Versteeg, Smith, Morin, McNeill, Nordstrom, Rassmussen (without considering Teravainen).

Just got back from the Leaf vs. Hawks rookie game.I was not overly impressed by any one player except perhaps Dillon Fournier.Johns seemed to make some poor decisions pressing and TT showed some skill but seemed less than dominant. Just one game may get a better read on things after tomorrows game.

I liked him and I may be mistaken but I believe his invitee linemate VanStralen scored the 2 goals, hard work not pretty goals. The whole game but for the second period to me just had a chippy thrown together team feel and I am hoping for more tomorrow.Stan and Scotty where both there. Was surprised that Scotty is here but my bro says he has a brother living in London.

Good thing they kept Mel Tucker and spent all that money in FA on D.
