Ive noticed that one really good rating in one category can really skewer the overall ranking for that game.

Those ratings have gotten so bad over the years. "You get an 80-something, and you get an 80-something, and YOU get an 80-something!"

Couturier showed a really nice wrist shot his first year. He had a high shooting percentage finding holes from out a bit. He scored 13 that year, same as last. I don't think it's unreasonable to see him at least push 20 goals this year.

Hextall: Our team was very diligent about training [this summer]. Our team last year? I don’t think was in great shape. I really don’t, for whatever reason. We better be in better shape this year. 1 and 7 [start]? We can’t do that again. We got to be ready to go on opening night. We gotta fricking go! That type of thing far outweighs signing a decent free agent.

Im kind of amazed that a Laviolette coached team, a team that played a go go go style all the time would be out of shape. That really tells me that Lavi had lost the team.

One of the big issues with EA is they tend to overvalue formerly good vets on their last legs. Kubina was a Flyer one year and was an 83, meanwhile Timonen was 85

Sounds like Leino gets a tryout with the Broons

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Peter Chiarelli just spoke with Boston media; said Steve Eminger will be signed to AHL deal and Ville Leino gets a training-camp tryout.

Most of the overall rankings are off. I rarely ever see an accurate one. Even Crosby... 95 defense?! Give me a break...

Crosby should be 100 overall. Everyone else 50-60 overall.

Yeah, I dont think ive ever seen him play defense of a consistent basis. But its Sidney Crosby, everyone has to jump on the bandwagon at some point.

Which is surprising because I dont know how they wouldnt want to play for Lavi. I would run through a brick wall for that man

Lavi was being outmaneuvered, consistently, by the same set of teams. NJ. NYR. Any team that played a patient style. I gotta imagine the players see this and tire of beating their heads against a wall.

I think maybe they felt, as many in the fan base did, that he wasn't properly adjusting his system to fit his personnel. I dont think the players thought the style fit their games. Lavi was trying to fit a square peg in to a round hole and the players got sick of it.

This is just a theory.

Yeah and that seems like the most realistic explanation. They were totally owned by those two teams. However, they were competitive, like when they beat the Devils in 5 games during the 2010 run to the Stanley Cup final. I guess that Richie and Carter trade had a lot to do with it. And the boneheaded defensive signings from Holmgren. Not to mention having a lack of prospects to pick from to at least help Lavy move forward with his vision.

In the end though, having players like Simmonds and Voracek, I dont regret those trades for a minute. We wound up getting 4 really good players in return (Coots, Jake, Simmer, and Baby Schenn). Plus Berube is looks like a quality coach in the end, so I guess it all works out.

With the back end looking as shaky as it does, I think so. I think its going to take to the trade deadline before it gets to become an entertaining season.
